One more question pjdobro. What about dictation passages?

We did the 2nd spelling list this year (1st grade). That means 2nd grade, we will do dictation, cursive, r&s2 from Bigger. So for 3rd grade I would just do Bigger, but for LA I would be done with cheerful cursive, move to r&s3, and then do what dictation? Is there a second dictation list in the back of Bigger?

Thanks for your help. Sorry for hijacking the thread a little.

If you make it through all of the first dictation list, level 2, in Bigger, then you will need the Preparing guide for the next level of dictation. You should be fine though when you get to Preparing because R&S4 is scheduled as well as Singapore 4 and there are 3 levels of dictation in Preparing, levels 2, 3, and 4. Instead of doing Cheerful Cursive while doing Bigger, since you've already done that, you would do the Poetry copywork. So with the exception of dictation, you will be all set in one guide. :D

I didn't read all the answers so this might have been said.

We did another year of handwriting (ARFH-A) during Beyond so we didn't focus on copywork much. I would have her write her Bible verse once during the week, and then there was the handwriting work in ARFH-A...

Now in Bigger her hand strength has improved so much that she can copy the whole poem in a weeks time. I just have her copy out of the manual. :)

My son, who is 7, in 1st grade, just copies a few sentences. Nothing fancy. he doesn't always finished the whole poem. He also has very nice writing. for the last few units though he wold rather copy a few sentences from a book either from story-time or his reading. i am fine with it . Actually the other day was good, b/c he said "Mom, they capitalized this letter in this word." I asked him what the word was and he said it was a name ... then he thought about that and said "that's right we capitalize the first letter of a name. so it was Language Arts too!

For my daughter....I divide the poem of the week up for 4 days.....and I found in a box we had one of those old fashion photobooks that that have the plastic and you use to put pictures in them.....I write off the poem....and put it in there....and my daughter came up with the idea to put the one she copies on the other side so she could compare her handwriting improvement thru the year.....I would have not thought of doing it that way but thought it was pretty creative for her to come up with it! So we use that as our poem notebook and it works well.....Beth in Idaho

Great ideas! One thing that helped my ds copy the spacing of the poem accurately was to hi-light the indentations, as well as the double-space between stanzas. Before I did that, he just wrote it with no spacing. :D
