I took the plunge!

Post by Hillcrest Academy » Wed Apr 02, 2008 8:55 am

I spoke to my hubby and took the plunge and ordered Little Hands and Little Hearts.

I cannot tell you how excited I am! :D

The amazing thing is that Little Hearts accomplishes EVERYTHING on the list I had for my DD6:
- Bible daily
- An overview of history from Creation to now to give history it's place in the Bible, and vice versa. We want to do a 4-year cycle of history (such as TOG) but don't want to teach the ancients too early (i.e. before a foundation has been built in God's Truth)
- My phonics choice (we're using HOP)
- A Reason for Writing
- Singapore Math
- Science - excited to see how this turns out since we love science

I had made up this list before we found HOD. Amazing in hindsight to see how the Lord leads us.

Carrie, THANK YOU! The Lord has obviously led you to this ministry and through your obedience, many have bene blessed!

We can't wait to get started!

Blessings,
Caryn

How neat!

Just curious, how did you come up with the Hillcrest Academy name?

I'm doing Greenfield Academy as the official title for forms, etc... Greenfield is our street name. LOL

Congratulations! What a fun year you have ahead of you! So glad you have peace and something wonderful to look forward to starting. We love LHFHG and sadly we missed the one before so you are so lucky to be hitting it all. Enjoy!

I am from South Africa (born and raise there, left to marry my American hubby) and the town I'm from is nearby to a pretty town called Hillcrest. So we're Hillcrest Academy for sentimental reasons ;) Sounds good for transcripts and diplomas too ;)

We have had such a fun morning now that the burden of "What are we going to do!?" has been lifted. The kids have been doing "Kindergarteny" type things that I just couldn't bring myself to organize before. Amazing what following the Lord's leading in one's life can do!

So Happy for you. It is a huge relief once you decide what to do. I also used HOP for phonics and it worked out great.

Have fun when box day comes!

Caryn,

Welcome and congratulations on your decision! I can imagine you are feeling much peace now!

I completely get what you are saying about needing something to help organize, I am lost without a plan! One of the best things about HOD is the organizational aspect and the ease in implementation as the guides are soooooooo open-and-go. Such a feeling of accomplishment as you complete each box in the guide!

Looking forward to hearing from you when your fun box arrives and you have a chance to begin the materials.

So happy for ya!! :D That feeling of peace is such an amazing feeling.

My bil has been to South Africa a few times and made some slide shows for us....it is a beautiful country!

Hmmm...we don't have a name for our school. I'll have to work on that.

Caryn,

I haven't stopped by to welcome you yet. Welcome! :D I'm so glad that you found HOD for your family. And I know what you mean about it fitting exctly what you were looking for. I've had a similar experience.

"Meeting" Carrie and the other ladies on this board has been so refreshing to me, too. :D 8) :D I love this group of like-minded, kindred spirits! It's something that I don't have much of in my rural area.
