Started DITHOR today!

Post by twoxcell » Tue Mar 22, 2011 12:34 am

My ds finished the emergent readers last week, so we started DITHOR level 2 today! We both really enjoyed it, and he really got into the Biography intro. We are using the the level 2 books recommended on the HOD site. I had to break up the chapter into two reading segments for him, because the book was quite a step up for him in terms of chapter lengths. It was an excellent challenge for him. I had him read me half of the chapter during school, and he read the second half to daddy after dinner. My husband was really impressed with how well he is reading, and the how difficult the book selection was. Thanks Carrie for another amazing program!

Excellent! I'm so happy that you both are enjoying it. :D That is so wonderful when our dc are able to show their new skills to our dhs, isn't it? It's nice for the dads to see how the dc are doing and at least for me, it sort of validates me as a teacher. I still have a hard time thinking of myself as a teacher most of the time  , but HOD makes me look like a good teacher. DITHR is an amazing program! :D Congratulations on a fantastic start! :D

twoxcell,

We got underway with DITHR with my third little guy a month ago, and I cannot believe the progress he has already made! So, I'll share in your joy today! :D We hope you have many years of wonderful reading discussions, but more than that we pray that DITHR will touch the heart of your child as the lessons guide him toward reading with Biblical moral discernment. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Congratulations on a great start with DITHOR! :D I can attest to the fact that it just keeps on being such a joy to use over the years, and the HOD books suggestions in the book packs have been big hits with our kiddos. :) You can be so proud of your ds - HE'S A READER! HE'S A READER! :D I just remember thinking that when my first ds learned to read... it was the feeling that WOW, HE CAN READ! And also the feeling that WOW, I TAUGHT HIM TO READ! What a joy!

Thanks, Carrie, and Julie! Even better is he started this school year being a reluctant reader(meaning he could read, but did not enjoy it). Thanks to HOD excellent book selections he now tells me reading is his favorite part of school. He has been looking at all the books on the shelf asking me when he gets to read them.
