Writing/ writing paper for Cheerful Cursive
Writing/ writing paper for Cheerful Cursive
Hello to all! I have a question about writing paper. Right now my 2nd and 3rd grade dds are using the Mead notebook paper that is ruled for their grades. I am wanting to switch to regular wide ruled notebook paper but I am curious about what Cheerful Cursive uses because we will be using that in the upcoming school year. Neither of them have any writing issues although one does write quite a bit larger than the other. Also, what paper do you use for general writing in Bigger? TIA

Re: Writing/ writing paper for Cheerful Cursive
Hi! Tia,
The Cheerful Cursive program is a workbook that includes the pages to write on! It is wonderful my dd 8 has been working through it now for 4 weeks or so.
We are loving this program!
I don't think there is a specific paper type designated for Bigger. We do the writing for the note-booking part on blank paper and I usually make a worksheet for dd with lines
to write the verse at the top etc. Our copy-work,spelling, and vocabulary are done in wide rule spiral notebooks. I would use whatever works best for each child. HTH

Re: Writing/ writing paper for Cheerful Cursive
Kathy, thanks so much for the response! It helps to know that Cheerful Cursive includes a workbook. One thing, would you say that the worksheets are comparable to wide ruled paper in the spacing? Thanks again.

Re: Writing/ writing paper for Cheerful Cursive
Gina, I checked the spacing in Cheerful Cursive this morning because I honestly couldn't think of what it used. After looking, I thought to myself that it was no wonder I couldn't visualize any one ruling. They typically start the lesson on regular ruled lines with the dashed line in the middle. It looks to be about 3/4 of an inch. Then elsewhere on the page, they might write on similar lines that are a bit smaller, say 1/2 inch. Then towards the bottom there is part where the write on regular wide-ruled lines without the middle dashed line. As I thought about this, I thought that is so ingenious as it helps the dc see and practice writing on the large ruled lines and transitions them to the smaller lines all in one lesson. My dc have had been doing wonderfully at using the different types of lines in each lesson. I think it prepares them to write on whatever presents itself in the future.
For the rest of work in Bigger, we are using a variety of things. For notebooking, we typically use plain paper, but I often will make a light bottom guide line for them to write their scripture verse. For our Bible verse, they are using 1/2" ruled paper with the dashed line in the middle. It's a story pad from Miller Pads and Paper. For vocabulary, they are writing on 3X5 index cards. For dictation, we use a wide-ruled composition book. For all other writing activities, we use wide-ruled loose leaf paper. They have done well going from one type of paper to the other, adjusting the size of their lettering.

Re: Writing/ writing paper for Cheerful Cursive
I made your name Tia! I just glanced at the bottom of your post. LOL! sorry!
I was going to say almost the same thing as Patty. I looked in the front of the book and it says that the lines move from smaller to larger (over 1 inch down to wide ruled spaces).
One of my favorite things about CC is that it helps the child learn to read cursive as well as write it.
Blessings,
Kathy

Re: Writing/ writing paper for Cheerful Cursive
Kathy, no worries. I also chose Cheerful Cursive because it teaches how to read cursive as well as write it. What a unique approach and yet it makes perfect sense. Thanks again ladies.
