WOW! Had an incredible teaching time...

Post by 3sweeties » Wed Feb 09, 2011 9:31 pm

...with my oldest DS today! We started discussing his Bible verse/study in Preparing, Unit 11 -- how the angels are encamped around us, protecting us, etc., and it turned into a full-scale theological discussion!!! :) I was amazed at the questions he was asking and how he also tied it in with what he has been reading in Child's History of the World and Grandpa's Box. We talked about how the Jews in the OT had to constantly make sacrifices to be forgiven for their sins and how Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice when he died on the cross for us! He asked about what happened to Adam and Eve, Moses, David and other Old Testament figures when they died since Jesus hadn't been sent by God yet, but they still believed in the true God. Wow! I wasn't asking these kinds of questions until I was much older than 9!!! :D I know I have HOD to thank for providing such awesome opportunities to have such meaningful, life-impacting talks with my children!!! THANK YOU!!!! :D Just had to share! :D

P.S. I wanted to add that I am seeing an amazing amount of growth/maturity in my oldest DS compared to last year as far as the spiritual discussions go -- he used to say "I don't know." as his standard answer...I am so encouraged that lately his answers and questions are much more thought out and heartfelt! Praying that his relationship with Jesus will continue to grow, mature, and become more personal to him!

Wow! That is a great discussion! It is so wonderful to see that growth in the Lord and the higher level thinking that continues to emerge. I know I am seeing glimpses of that myself. When I see that, I think about the classical way of thinking which states that children normally don't enter that stage of questioning/reasoning until around adolescence. I think the higher level thinking skills in HOD are getting our dc into those deeper levels of thinking earlier. It's wonderful! :D

Awesome! This morning, all three of my girls joined in the Bible study-even the 11th-grader! I thank God for Heart of Dakota- I've never used any curriculum before that inspires such unity and deep discussions of God's Word.

I'm praising the Lord with you too on your wonderful discussion. Those moments truly come from the Lord and are such a blessing! Your post brought tears to my eyes. :D I love to see our kiddos thinking deeply about God's Word, our relationship with Him, and His sacrifice on the cross for our salvation! There is no greater topic that matters for eternity. :D

Thanks so much for sharing! :D

Blessings,
Carrie

What a blessing, Jessica! :D It's moments like that with my kids that make me SO THANKFUL for the privilege to be their mom! Truly a wonderful responsibility that God has given me. So glad that God blessed you with this special moment with your son. It makes ALL the moments of changing diapers, folding laundry, cooking meals, breaking up fights...seem much more sacred. What you're doing makes a difference!! And, for me, HOD is what provides me with those moments, too.

I am rejoicing with you today! Nothing is more important than the education of the heart with Christ. It's eternal learning. Praising the Lord with you today, and praying more days just like this are in the future! :D
