Is your 3rd grader (8 year old) able to read this?

In the Bigger series are your 8 year olds able to read A first Book in American History? By themselves?

Is it intended to be read to them, or as a read-aloud?

It just isn't working for us, and I'm not sure if it's a dyslexia thing or what

I believe it's intended to be read aloud by the parent (someone correct me if wrong). I think all 3 of the history spines are read-alouds.

I've been reading it aloud to my 10 yo dd and 12 yo ds. I'm pretty sure that it was intended as a read aloud.

I have been using it as a read aloud.
here is a handy tip my dear old Dad gave me...
hand the child the book and let them read one page if they make more than 5 reading mistakes.. it is to hard for them to read...

My Dad kept handing my dd books in the book store last year. He was doing it to check up on me... tee hee at least she was above grade in reading.

The history and science books are read-alouds in Bigger. Of course, if you had a child who COULD read it, it would be less work for mom

The ladies are right on here! It is intended as a read-aloud. However, if you have a very strong reader, he/she could read it to himself/herself as Lourdes pointed out.

But as a read-aloud it really comes to life.
