Emerging Reader 2xs?
I currently use Beyond with my almost 9 year old daughter..we are using the emerging reader set this year. Looking ahead to next year (Bigger) and realizing she would need to be ready for chapter books!! yikes..bc she is struggling to read the assigned pages every day...wondering if anyone might have another list or suggest a second set of emerging readers to use for next year? or should i just slow it down, and use this set at 1/2 pace and pray she's ready for the chapter books when we start Bigger? suggestions please? thanks
Re: Emerging Reader 2xs?
Have you tried the supplementary titles Carrie lists each week in the Emergent Readers section of the Beyond manual? We've been filling in with those for extra practice.

I see no problem at all slowing down to a pace that works best for your dd. It doesn't matter if she is done with the emerging readers before heading into Bigger. She can continue with them then. Some people use both Bible options to extend the emerging readers, others have used the supplemental texts along the way to slow down the pace as well. Here is a recent post talking about various options: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8147 Use whatever pace works well for you and your dd. Rest assured that eventually your dd will be ready for chapter books. I remember feeling like my ds would never get to that point but by progressing through the emerging readers, slowly his reading skills improved and before I knew it, he was reading well.

Re: Emerging Reader 2xs?
I know with my daughter, she is doing ok with her phonics, but was not going through our program at the suggested rate without struggles. It is fine, since she is a young 5 (Sept birthday), so the ladies on here suggested I go at half pace with her. Right now I'm going at a speed that is comfortable for her, yet I know that it will take us two years or a year and a half to do our phonics program. And the great part is, she is excited about it again, and I didn't just throw everything out the window. I have had to learn to be comfortable not following the exact day on the reading for her and the math for my son (who is further ahead in math). I'm a rule type of a gal, so I'd like to be all tidy and follow each day exactly as planned, but that's part of the beauty of homeschooling, right? Going along with each child's pace is what will help them (and us as teachers) to be successful in our jobs. Hope that helps some!

The ladies are giving you great suggestions! Can you tell me what book you're currently on in the Emerging Reader's Set as that will help us advise even more clearly what to do. Also, do you remember about when or how long your daughter has been struggling with the readings?
The last question is whether your daughter has been completely through a phonics program, just to be sure she knows all her sounds and knows how to sound words out? The reason I ask is because I'm trying to discover whether it is a phonetic hurdle, or perhaps a vision hurdle, or maybe just a normal growing into reading hurdle.
If you get a chance to pop back in with those details, we can give you more specific advice.
Blessings,
Carrie
