We did our first day of BEYOND today!!!

Post by Kelly » Mon Mar 24, 2008 5:57 pm

Hi everyone!! All I can say is "WOW!!!" We both (my son and I) LOVED our first day!! It was just enough for him. It was not overwhelming or boring for me. And it was pretty quick!! AND HE DIDN'T CRY ABOUT IT (yay!) He loved "traveling the world" and tracing Columbus' route on a pillow. IT is the perfect amount of activity/reading/writing for us!!
I am curious to see if this method of spelling will help him. I sure hope so.
I started him with Singapore math 1a. I probably could have gone with a higher level, but I could tell that he could use more practice. I hope to have him doing 2a early fall. We'll see.....
Also, my husband was laying with him in bed last night and he said my son just totally opened up to him and told him how I switched his math program and how happy he was about it. My husband said he sounded so relieved. (We have been doing 1a ever since I recieved our box even though I just started Beyond today.) He has had a much better attitude about math since the switch. I think it's the fewer problems on each page.(even though we are doing 4-6 pages a day to catch up.)
Thank you Carrie!! HOD is such a Godsend to our family!!

Kelly,

I'm so glad that you had a good first day. Your little guy sounds precious! :D I'm also happy that the math is feeling like a good switch. You may even want to give yourself permission to just teach Singapore 1A/1B along with the hands-on math lessons as scheduled in "Beyond...".

I know about switching math programs and trying to get kiddos caught up (as I was the Queen of this with my oldest son)! Eventually you may just want to slow down and go at the pace in the "Beyond.." guide. Long-term Singapore 6A/6B is considered pre-algebra already. So, Singapore is quite advanced, even though 1A/1B don't appear that way. Just some food for thought! You would know best. :D

Thanks for sharing your excitement! It's like a breath of fresh air to me today!

Blessings,
Carrie
