Has anyone added Mystery of History 2 in to RTR?

Post by HappyGrace » Fri Dec 17, 2010 10:21 am

Hi, I'm new here, thinking of doing RTR next yr with my (advanced) 6th grade dd. However, I really want to do Mystery of History 2. (Note: I read Carrie's opinion of why she didn't use it, but I still want to do so.) We are used to doing TOG, so plenty of reading is not a problem for us. I'm hoping to fit in MOH2 double-paced, like Carrie did with MOH3 in the 2nd half.

I'm wondering if anyone has already scheduled in MOH2 so I don't have to reinvent the wheel? :D

Thanks-it's nice to be here! HGrace

Welcome to the HOD Board! :D We are doing RTR, and it is an outstanding program. My ds is learning so much! :) The book selections have been so good they are hard to put down. The RTR Student Book pages are absolutely full of beautiful pictures of the famous people we are reading about, and the lovely artwork of the time period. It has really made this time period come to life for us, and it's also making such a neat keepsake of the year. One of the things we have loved is the balance in RTR. The readings, the writing assignments, the hands-on are balanced so nicely. Likewise, the independent, semi-independent, and teacher-directed time is balanced so well. RTR is a very full program. The amount of reading each day has been just right for my ds to be able to flourish with the CM skills of oral narration and written narration, and he has also had the time he needs to hone the many other skills included as follow-ups to the readings. I personally would not add anything more to the day. However, you will know best what you'd enjoy here. Perhaps it would be worthwhile to begin with RTR first, and then see if you still want to add the additional MOH book. Either way, I'm sure you'd enjoy all RTR has to offer. I look forward to getting to know you more here - this board is full of such encouragement! I bet you'll enjoy it as much as I do. :D

Thank you, Julie! I almost feel like we've "met" already since I had looked through most of your week in reviews before you even posted this to me! It helped me get more of a feel for the program, so I'm glad you wrote them. :D

Thank you also for the encouragement. I've been basically writing my own history plans for the past few yrs, but using TOG this yr. It is just not working to combine my 2nd grader and older dd, since they are on such different levels. I'm thinking letting older dd do RTR next yr will help that, and it's all planned out for me. I love all the resources included.

She is on the upper range as far as age, and certainly ability. I will probably just go ahead and buy RTR, and then see if I want to add in MOH or not, good idea.

Thank you! HGrace

Thank you for reading the weekly check-in! :D I like to do that to remember the highlights of the week myself, as it keeps me focused on the positive - but I also like to do it so other moms can get a glimpse of how wonderful HOD is! :D It's nice to know you were able to enjoy that and will soon be able to enjoy RTR in your own home. Have a good Wed.! :D
