How long for RTR each day?

Post by inHistiming » Thu Dec 16, 2010 1:57 pm

I'm just wondering about how long it takes your students to complete their RTR work each day. I know it's the newest guide, but I thought those using it this year should be able to give me an estimate. Anyone?

I'd say an average of 4 hours for Wyatt. :D He has decided on his own to get up around 6 or 6:30 AM or so and do science as he has the whole kitchen (and my dh  ) to himself. It's become a neat time for the 2 of them to be alone as Wyatt does his science, and Rich gets ready for work. Then Wyatt comes upstairs and does his Independent Bible Quiet Time in his room. After that the rest of us get up and do chores, breakfast, etc., and we begin school around 8:15 or 8:30 AM. We finish around noon usually, and Wyatt has about a 40 minute playtime with Emmett around 10:00 AM or so, as well as a mid-morning snack. Today we finished at 11:15 AM, and other days we go later, but the latest has probably been about 1 PM, and that would only be if I absolutely had to deal with something on the phone, with someone stopping by and needing something, etc.

There was practically no adjustment period for Wyatt this year. Usually I expect it to take about 2-4 weeks for the kiddos and I to get into the swing of a new guide, but he was finishing in about 4 hours from the start with RTR. CTC really prepared him for RTR. The format is similar, and he has just done amazingly well with the level of independence in the upper HOD guides. If a student began RTR having not done CTC first, I'd guess there would be an adjustment period of up to a month or maybe even more. Likewise, if a student was not familiar with CM LA, that would add teaching time to teach those skills. As always, proper placement is important. We are loving RTR! The books are gripping, and there is just so much depth within the Biblical focus. The Student Book is like a work of art. The pictures are just beautiful. At this stage of parenting with this age of my ds, I am especially appreciating "Boyhood and Beyond". The instruction on "becoming a Godly man" is outstanding, and comes out much better from a male author than it would from me as his mom. :D

We're averaging 4 and 1/2 hours a day for my artsy student. Although on the days where there is no art, he's done earlier. :D Hope that helps!

Blessings,
Carrie

I would say about the same for my dd as well. She is usually done in about 4 1/2 hours. She is doing different science that is a bit more time consuming. But it seems she is done pretty much 4 1/2 hours a day. Truly if my kids are behind I am always the issue. But RTR has been a really easy transition. No real adjustment at all. She is loving it too. :D

Thanks ladies! I've now ordered and I am waiting impatiently for the books to arrive...a problem with me, NOT HOD's shipping, as I know they are very diligent and quick! My son uses a different math so it will probably take him closer to an hour to complete that one subject, but the time frame is helpful. I also went to the 'schedules' thread and saved Carrie's estimated times for each subject, so thanks. That will be a big help once we're into it!
