Thought of another question... I would like to do the Do It Carefully books and Finding the Answers for Kindergarten. Then, half way through LHFHG, in which he would be 1st grade... I would like to incorporate the Thinking Skills Grade 1 book. Do you think this is manageable? He likes workbooks, just don't want it to be too much.

LeAnna wrote:Thank you for all the ideas! Julie, since Abraham will be 6, what is your recommendation for him and math, then? Going half speed for the first year and speed up the 2nd? Or just keep it at half speed? I do think going half speed with him for LHFHG would be good, taking 2 years to get through. I think for him, starting Beyond at 2nd, will be a good fit. My girls started it earlier, but they were girls too.

I think it is a good idea to start math half-speed, and then reevaluate it the next year. You could easily finish it out half-speed the next year, or switch to full-speed if you felt he was needing that pacing at that point. I think it is wise to pace each child according to their needs rather than trying to follow the same path for all of them. Our second ds needed some half-speed years, and our oldest didn't. Both have been doing so well with their individual pacing, and that can only help my days to go more smoothly too. :) I think you are wise to consider his needs rather than trying to have him conform to what your 2 dd's did - and yes, boys can certainly be different than gals. :D

Totally manageable, and a good idea to build those fine motor skills and thinking skills! :D Yes, I think that is a great idea. You could just do full-speed with the R & S Books, and then switch to full-speed Thinking Skills. :D
