I was brought to happy tears today

Post by LynnH » Fri Dec 10, 2010 8:13 pm

As most of you know my ds has mild Cerebral Palsy which makes handwriting, drawing and coloring very difficult for him. Last week he made the discovery that a mechanical pencil makes a big difference in his ability to write legibly. I am so thankful that God showed this to him. It is making a huge difference in his confidence. Well today God brought us more encouragement. Last year when he did Draw and Write Through History there was no way he could draw the drawings without tracing them. If he did it didn't resemble what he was supposed to draw at all. His drawings in his notebook are probably about what a 7 year old or less would draw, but as long as he does his best I don't make a big deal of it. Well today he had his first Draw and Write through History assignment of the year. I wasn't sure how it was going to go since this year he puts them on the notebooking pages so tracing wasn't an option. It was amazing to watch. He followed every step. He didn't get frustrated, he took his time and using his mechanical pencil it actually looks very much like it does in the book. I had to walk out of the room to cry. He was soooo excited. He wanted me to take a picture of it with my cell phone and send it to his dad. I also took one with my camera. I don't know what will happen when he tries to color it in, but I am just rejoicing in his pencil sketch.

Lynn - I am so proud of your ds!!! :D That is truly beautiful - I love the idea of framing it! :D I think it is so special your ds wanted to share it with your dh right away too, and even more special that he knew you'd take the time to do it. You are such. a. good. mom! I just googled it and they make mechanical colored pencils too! I don't know if that would be something he would enjoy too, but I thought I'd mention it! :D Thank you for letting us share in this happy moment.
