When are you taking off for Christmas?

Post by Tree House Academy » Tue Dec 07, 2010 9:01 am

I am just curious to see what other HOD'ers are doing for this Holiday season. In years past, we have taken from Thanksgiving through Christmas off. This year, we are all so happily enjoying HOD that the kids and I have decided to keep plugging along. We took off a week at Thanksgiving and we will be taking a week off at Christmas (from the 17th until the 27th). What are your plans? :)

Our senior takes most of his classes at the high school. They're off the 20th to the 3rd, I think. Our youngest is at home and we'll take off the same time just to make life easier. We also have a few days we'll take off before then for the ballet and a couple parties.

Last year we schooled up until Christmas and then just took of a few days between Christmas and New Years because DS didn't want to stop. This year, we are hosting my whole family for Christmas and will have varying amounts of company from Dec. 22nd through Jan 1st - some of my family is staying the whole time, some are only coming in for Christmas weekend. When they are all here we will have 14 people in our house!! I usually think of our house as a decent size, but it may get a little crowded with everyone here. It will be fun though! Both of my brothers and their families are making it in at the same time. YAY! They are in the military so they don't always both make it home for Christmas, let alone on overlapping days. I can't wait!

Anyway we are taking off Dec. 20th through Jan 3rd.

My dh is off the week before Christmas, but my older son will be with his dad that week (coming home the day after Christmas). We may as well get back to a routine as soon as he comes home. I find that if we take too much time off, the kids lose their steam and so do I!

Well we are supposed to be taking off two weeks for Christmas. This week we were supposed to be starting unit 19 of Beyond, and 14 of Little hearts. This week is going to be a bit crazy, so instead we are just gonna do some review, and basics. Hopefully next week we will get to HOD.

We usually take 3 weeks off at the holidays time. However, my in-laws retired and spend the winter with us. They get here a couple of days before New Years. Therefore we are working until they get here, probably only 3 days a week, though. It is a busy time of year. This enables us to take a 3 week break with Grandma and Grandpa. They are here for 3 months, so after the break we will go back to school 3 days a week at least. One of the reasons I LOVE homeschooling. :D We get to plan our schedule that works BEST for us.

Well, normally we take all of December off of our regular school to do some fun Christmas stuff. This year we've had so many breaks, and we're ending our school year in April since we'll be having a new baby, so we're going to keep going with school until December 23. Dh will be off the 24th-Jan 2nd so we'll go ahead and be off during most of that time. We may start back the 29th though. Still not completely sure. I guess it depends how much we get done between now and then.
