Can you use LHFHG 2 years in a row?

Post by mae357 » Tue Nov 30, 2010 8:18 am

Next year I will start K with my 5 year old DD. I was considering LHFHG and using the K curriculum and doing some of my own for history. Then the next year use the same guide but do the 1st grade options and use their history program. The second year that I'll be using the guide I'll have my third dd ready for school and I figured this way I can keep the 2 of them in the same guide. Does this make sense? Have one doing it for K and one doing it for 1st. I guess I was trying to think of a way so that I don't have 3 guides going at once. My dd who I thought could do it for 2 years was an extreme preemie and is a bit slower in learning than most also.

I think it would work fine. Here's a couple of other things people have done that may work for you to:

Use Little Hands To Heaven for the Bible and activities and then add the right side of LHFHG for phonics, math, fine motor skills, handwriting

Use LHFHG at 1/2 speed over 2 years. This was our original plan but DS was begging for more so we will actually be finishing in 1 1/2 years instead of 2. What we did was do phonics and the K options for handwriting, fine motor skills, and math daily. When we finished those, we went on and did the 1st grade options. For the other subjects we split it up like this:
Day 1:
Rhymes in Motion & Reviewed bible verse for the unit
Reading about History
Rotating Box (the one with science, dramatic play, art, etc)

Day 2:
Rhymes in Motion
Bible Study
Storytime

This worked out well for us. We also checked out additional library books on whatever topics we were studying in science and history. Carrie gives some great history book suggestions in the back of the LHFHG guide and we looked for those first, but if we couldn't find them I would just search the topic in the library's card catalog and would almost always find at least one or two books to read.

Loved using LHTH, LHFHG, BLHFHG, BHFHG, PHFHG, CTC, & RTR!

We did LHFHG half-speed for awhile too, and that was a great pace for my middle ds. :) In lieu of trying to come up with different history or redo the same history 2 years in a row, I would use one of Stephanie's good ideas. :D I think you'll be set then, as long as your younger dd comes along. LHFHG is such fun to do - I'm glad your girls will get to enjoy it! HTH! :D
