where to start

Post by nursinmamaa » Wed Nov 10, 2010 10:33 am

I am looking ahead to next year. I am homeschooling my 7 year old now as a first grader in a Waldorf style curriculum. I want to switch out of this for the rest and am seriously thinking that this is the right area to go. However, I don't exactly know where to place him.
And then I have a going to be 5 year old in June, so for next year I would do kindergarten and I don't know I should use LHOH or the next one up?
Help?
Jill

Hi Jill!

Welcome to the HOD boards! :D First, I would look at the placement chart on the main web site or in the catalog. REALLY pay attention to the first section as far as where your children place. Let us know where they each place and we will be glad to help you some more! :)

Hi Jill, and welcome to the HOD Board! :D I think you would love doing HOD. We have for many years now, and we continue to enjoy our homeschooling journey so much. As far as your dc's ages, Little Hearts for His Glory is for 5-7 yo's, so as long as they are both looking ready for the skills shown on the placement chart, if you want to combine, you could probably do LHFHG. Here is a link to the placement chart:
http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php

If both the 5 and the 7 yo's fit well into LHFHG, you can use the younger fine motor skills options with your younger child, and the older options for your older child. :D

If you look at the placement chart, and your 5 yo is not quite ready for LHFHG, than you could do Little Hands to Heaven with that child. We are doing 3 HOD guides and enjoying it at our home, and we have found the placement chart to be quite accurate and easy to use.

If you look at the placement chart, and your 7 yo is ready for Beyond Little Hearts, then that is a great guide too! :D I'd love to hear about each of your dc's reading, writing, and math with the placement chart in mind if you get the chance, and then we can help you choose a placement you feel fits best for your dc! :D

In Christ,
Julie

Thank you so much. I think my younger boy is not yet ready, he knows colors but not so much numbers and letters. So i think we will use little hands to heaven for him. I also have two more little boys, so it will not go to waste! lol
I will have to really look at my older boy to decipher where he will be. i look forward to using this! sorry - 1 handed typing here...
Thank you very much!
Jill
