HoD and High School

Do you think HoD prepares a child for high school without a lot of modification? I am tired of tweaking things. My DD is in 5th grade and I am looking down the road for her.

I think that we may start with Bigger for her and her brother. Do you think that will give me enough "room" to fit in what is needed for high school?

We are doing Bigger now and I have poured and poured over the future HOD programs. I defiantly think HOD more than prepares a child for High School. So many things I learned in school where from a text book. I memorized them in my short term memory just to pass the test. The only lessons I remember from elementary and middle school are the ones that were taught by a teacher with creativity. HOD is all about creative learning and it really does cement it in their minds. My kids know now way more than I knew at their age!

More than adequate preparation for high school is one of HOD's goals. Carrie's ds has piloted a good deal of HOD's materials for guides, and he is doing fantastic in high school this year. (Yes, I am the proud aunt!) Seriously though, we want our dc to be more than ready for high school. When Carrie chooses materials for HOD, she never just researches the year she is writing for - she starts from high school level skills and works back to the guide she's doing - always. This ensures the needed skills are in place by the time dc do get to high school. If she writes high school, she'll probably start with college level skills and work back from there. We come from a family of teachers who L-O-V-E education and value it highly - oh yes, if you do every bit of the HOD guides, your dc should be prepared... and then some.

I am certianly in prayer for Carrie and HOD...
I personally would love to see the guides go on for High School. I know I've said this so many times, but I have no problem repeating it
My husband and I chose CTC as our dd's curriculum for 7th grade last year and I am in no way disappointed. We have watched the love of learning come back to our dd! I have seen her read more books in one school year's time than I have seen her read in all the years we have been homeschooling. She actually fusses now when she doesn't complete a full day and loves setting up her science experiments.
We found that HOD challenges her, yet allows her to work at a pace that fits her learning syle, so that she is never left feeling overwhelmed.
Currently my husband and I devised a way for her to experience as many of the guides as possible and hopefully be able to see Carrie write guides that will take us through highschool.
Taking in consideration where our dd is ...we decided to do a 2nd year of 7th (wrapping up CTC and moving into RTR).
We will do 2 year of 8th..labeling them 8-1 and 8-2, this will allow her to go through the next two guides following RTR (will add on extentions)..
Then she'll move into the geography guide for 9th grade with the possible extentions. So prayerfully by then we might see more high school leveld guides in the works??? **hope, hope, pray pray pray**

Either way for our dd I think by slowing down her middle school years and using HOD to its fullest I know she'll be fully prepared for high school and beyond.

I like this idea. We will have to consider stretching instead of cramming. Thank you!

My daughter will use RTR as a freshman, the 2 American guides as a sophomore and juinor, and the geography guide as a senior. I know it may not be the "perfect" scenerio, but it will allow me to combine her with her two younger brothers. She can help teach them. She is talented in the art department and likes the projects--no need for me there! I have plenty of "high school" stuff here from her older brothers. She will do Apologia science instead of the science in the guides. She will read the HOD science, but not do the pages with it or the experiments. She will probably check on the boys' experiments for me. We have BJU texts and various literature guides that I will assign as needed.

ETA: I reserve the right edit this plan if Carrie comes out with high school guides.

I am on the same plan as 8arrows but not because we are combining. It is my actual high school plan and I am confident with little modification it will be excellent high school. This is for my child who would probably be called the "most gifted" if I had to categorize. She has big college goals and I am confident HOD will get us there. I do customize LA, Math and Science. I would have to do this with about any program for her because of her goals. HOD is our glue and our sanity. It's working great for high school.
