Poetry copywork questions

Post by christyg » Wed Oct 06, 2010 12:44 pm

Hi! I have a some questions about the poetry copywork.

We are doing Beyond this year with my daughter. We have started the year off with handwriting paper. Our plan was to start with that, and then go to the transitional notebook paper (Mead RediSpace), and then finish the year using regular wide ruled paper. Our handwriting paper and transitional paper are both story paper with a space at the top to do the artwork for the poem. So, here are my 2 questions:

1) Is this a good schedule to start the year off with handwriting paper and end up with wide ruled paper? Or do most of you do all of Beyond with handwriting paper and then start Bigger in handwriting paper as well and then wean off of it?

2) When using wide ruled paper, do you buy special story paper that is wide ruled, or do you copy the poem on the wide ruled, and then do the artwork on a separate sheet of plain paper?

Thanks so much!

Christy :D

We finished Beyond a month or so ago. We did all copywork on wide ruled paper from the beginning. We also did "A Reason For Handwriting, A" which has the lines. At the beginning of the year it was a little bit messy, but by the end of the year she was doing it with no problem at all.

We did all art on regular printer paper.

We are using handwriting paper for copywork and printer paper for the drawings. I think you can photocopy the poem and let them draw on that also. We haven't done that because my girls need more room for their drawings. HTH

My ds is 7 and he does all his copywork in regular lined notebooks. For Poetry and Bible verses he uses one of those mead composition books that is wide ruled.
