Emerging Readers Nature Reader...
My son loved the Nature Reader so much when we did it for the Emerging Readers that he wants to read the next level up this year for DITHR? Would this work? Could we use it for the non-fiction genre?

I am wondering that same thing. I was wondering how to spread out the amount of pages.

I think it would be great as a non-fiction book choice. I'm not for sure as far as how to divide it up. It might be long enough that you only do part of it. I have all of the nature readers, but haven't really looked at them closely. I haven't had my dc read any of them yet except the one with the emerging readers. I'm thinking that if it is on their reading level that anywhere from 5 to 10 pages per day would be about right. I would probably try to make it cover one subject area if possible. I think the goal would be to make it about the right amount of reading for the dc to read about 15 minutes each day. I'll have to consider those for my dc when we get to non-fiction.

My ds is a kid who will lay down in bed and read a MTH book in less than an hour before he goes to bed. We will likely have to do the nature reader and another non-fiction to get through the genre. He is a voracious reader and reads well above grade level. Keeping up with his reading has been one of my biggest challenges this year. Don't get me wrong, I am glad he loves to read...but goodness!! LOL

That is wonderful! I understand a bit. I have a dd who is challenging me to keep her in quality books without cutting into the books that I'm saving for school. My ds is a kid who will lay down in bed and read a MTH book in less than an hour before he goes to bed. Re: Emerging Readers Nature Reader...
That is a good idea. He wants all of them, so we could just do two or so. The only thing I worry about while using DITHR is that the nature readers do not really lend themselves to character analysis, etc. Hmmm...maybe I should just have him read them for fun and do something else for DITHR.

Re: Emerging Readers Nature Reader...
I haven't yet done the non-fiction unit yet so I don't know what sort of analysis goes on with it. I made myself a little cheat sheet of the genres though and I see that main idea or theme is the story element studied so that should probably work out all right with the Nature Readers. The character traits for 2/3 are obedience and attentiveness. I'm not for sure how that would work. If you do decide to use the Nature Readers for DITHOR, let me know how it goes. I'm thinking I might want to use them if it works out ok.

You could just use the next book as a pleasure reading book.
