Preparing - Unit 5 - Cartouche - cookie dough?
Did I see somewhere here that someone made their Cartouche out of cookie dough? (And of course then ate it? ) I just wondered if I dreamed that or how it would work.
I've done all the guides now with at least one child and still feeling the HOD LOVE. LOL!

That was me. Yep... cookie dough...cut out cookies. Roll it out, but don't cut it out. Make it thicker than a regular cookie. Also, make it the size of a grapefruit and a half. Not too big or it'll break after cooking. We like chewy cookies as opposed to crunchy cookies so it didn't break. Then we frosted the cookie after it cooled and wiped it off so it would stay in the grooves. Wrong color of course, but fun nonetheless. Unless you can figure out how to make a choc frosting taste good on a christmas cookie.
You just have to be a little gentle, depending on the thickness of the cookie.

We did this as well. I had the kids "etch" the outline before we cooked it. AFter it was cooked, the etching was still there. They then used paintbrushes (washed!) to paint over the etching with colored icing. You could also use those little icing tubes that grocery stores sell. The boys had a blast and it was a yummy snack after. We also did this for the map in Unit 4. Pillsbury refrigerated sugar cookie dough works well.

wish I'd read this before making our cartouche! We really enjoyed doing it but would have rather eaten it than not know what to do with it I'm not as organized as others. What does everyone do with some of the projects that we enjoy so much? I will have a hard time throwing them away!

I don't throw them away. I save them or eat them.
Actually I box them up if they're really good and save them to look at a few years later, but then I only have one child. So I tossed a bunch of grade 1 things at the beginning of this year.
