We really need a decent way to research, but I really despise wikipedia.
Does anyone have an online subscription or bought software for an encyclopedia that you like?

Check with your local library. In my area, because we have a library card number, we can access lots of online encyclopedias from home--for free! That is what we have been using for research.

I would check out your local thrift store. Every time I go (which is often) there is another set for a few bucks. I am with you on the wikipedia, but more than that, I think my dc enjoy researching actual books more than the computer, at least while they're younger. My oldest dd likes to go to bed with those types of books (animal encyclopedias specifically) and just read until she falls asleep. Hope this helps!

I dont' much like Wiki either. We have a set of older encyclopedias and while they work most of the time (for most topics), some simple must be searched out online (for instance the tomb of King Tut today). If anyone finds anything great, I'd love to hear it too!

We found great information from World Book Online for Kids through our library website. You could listen to King Tut's horn being played, hear audio of an interview with the discoverer of the tomb, a related link had a video of the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Karnak.
Much of the research we've done for CTC so far, though, has been done using our Holman Bible Dictionary.
