Scheduling Rod and Staff
My dd is using Rod & Staff 3, but is about to finish...she has about 10 lessons left. I have her combined with my ds so I am not actually following a guide for her on her own. My question here is how should I schedule the rest of the R&S books? She'll have the rest of this year (5th grade) plus three more to complete levels 4-6. I am not sure if I will be keeping her combined with ds next year or if we will move her into her own program. I know the later guides have the English lessons at half pace. Any tips on how I should do this? Would 3 days a week work...should I do less, or more? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Re: Scheduling Rod and Staff
I have a question along these lines...I am having a hard time going half pace in RS 5. My son has done RS since 2nd grade, and he is used to it. Trying to decide if I can really go half pace and not freak out. HA! So, if we do the grade 5 book over 2 years (5th and 6th grades), then in grade 7 we would do the RS 6 book, and in grade 8 do RS 7? And so on? So, do we only do half pace for the CtoC and RtoR guides? THANKS!
DS 11 Finished CtoC! Moving on to RtoR!

Re: Scheduling Rod and Staff
I can answe this a little bit and I do know that Carrie has posted to this type thing before (but I do not have time to search threads at this moment). R&S 5 is done half pace in CTC and RTR and R&S 6 will be done half pace in the next two guides. The reason for this is because the intention is to finish R&S 6 by the END of 8th grade. R&S 7 and above gets into some really detailed stuff that is a little more appropriate for kids who are going to go on to study English or writing in college.
If you are behind this plan, you can make adaptations. My older son is in 6th grade and he is in the first part of R&S 5. He will do it half pace this year, half pace with R&R next year. Then, we will do R&S 6 full speed in 8th grade so we can finish.
This was Carrie's recommendation due to the other LA skills and how they are taught in the manuals.
Hope this helps!

Re: Scheduling Rod and Staff
Okay, so it sounds like I can just begin R&S 4 at half-pace when we get there in a couple of week. Since she's just in 5th grade she has almost a full 4 years to complete the 3 levels she has left. That will definitely make her happy...doing less English work per week.
Thanks.
