Question about history readings in Beyond....
Question about history readings in Beyond....
Yesterday and today we read out of Stories of the Pilgrims for history and I noticed there are vocabulary words and questions at the end of each story. Are we supposed to be doing these? I did them yesterday and today and my son barely knew any of the words and a couple of the questions were challenging as well!
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: Question about history readings in Beyond....
I'm not sure what the "correct" answer is, but we've been going over the words and questions. We only spend a few minutes doing it, and if they don't know the answer, I help them out. It seems to be a nice review of the reading.

I wouldn't worry about them too much as that particular reader is from Christian Liberty Press 4th grade package. The vocabulary words are aimed at that age group. If you want to do them that's fine though I think.

Re: Question about history readings in Beyond....
If you want to do these then I would say go ahead. However, they are not written in the guide so we don't go over them, unless ds or dd asks about a word specifically. The bible study and history activities, art...relate back to the history readings so you get a great overview that way without the vocab. or questions. I'm sure someone with real answers will pop in soon!

Re: Question about history readings in Beyond....
We go over the questions (I think of it almost as oral narration with guiding questions) just to make sure ds retained the information. He is almost 7 and the book is for 4th graders, so I want to make sure he totally understood what we read. We only go over vocab if there was a word he didn't know and we usually do it in the context of the story or I replace the word to one he does know while I am reading it to him.

Thanks so much! It sounds like I can do them if I want, but don't have to....
Re: Question about history readings in Beyond....
Ditto to this thought! We did them, but looked at them as a conversational kind of thing. If he knew the answer, great, if not, we talked it out with an attitude of being engaged in the history we were enjoying. HTH!HappyMama wrote:Thanks so much!
