I'm enjoying this and a suggestion . . .

Post by Heart_Mom » Fri Aug 27, 2010 12:36 pm

I'm just starting my second week of Beyond and Little Hands, and I"m LOVING it. :D (This is my first year with HOD!)

Anyway, I have one suggestion. For Little Hands, I would find the program a little easier to use if the pages that need to be copied (Hide and Seek, Number Pages, etc.) could optionally be purchased separately. :D It would be worth it to me pay $5 or $10 or maybe a little more to have the convenience of having those pages all ready to go. They could either be loose pages, or a workbook with perforated pages.

Just a suggestion, and thanks for such a great program! :D

We did LHTH last year and loved it. :D

Something that helped me prior to our year beginning was to go to a nearby office store and copy the Hide'n'Seek letter pages and Count on Me pages. I copied the letter pages in order of the units and then took the last Count on Me page and make 34+ copies. Since everything was in order, I simply stuck the stack of copied pages in a file folder. Each week I would grab the Hide'n'Seek page from the front of the folder with a Count on Me page from the back and my dd was set to color & learn. :)

I really need to make my copies ahead of time because I find myself putting off those activities until it is convenient for me to use the copy machine (it's at home, but still sometimes not convenient!) This week as I was making my copy for D, I was wondering if maybe they could put them online and give a password to retrieve them. Then we could just use our computer printer to print them off. The reason I wondered about this is because I find it difficult to copy them out of the book, getting them lined up and not getting dark edges, etc. while holding the cover and other pages back. Not to complain.....

I'm in agreement that I would gladly purchase the copies as a packet up front. We did LHTH last year and I didn't have easy access to a copier so it was a royal pain to get it taken care of. We'll be doing it again next year with Beyond. I'd gladly pay for a little thing like that to make my life easier!

Another idea so they are not out a lot of money publishing separate materials is to make it available in an e-book format to purchase so that can be downloaded. We're doing Beyond and I'd love something like that for the poetry part. My copies aren't pretty either. Can you tell I'm a little OCD? :D

Ooh, ladies! I agree that this is a great suggestion and one that will go on a very long list of possiblities someday. We are a long way off to getting to that type of a project as we are incredibly short of time to do projects that are not completely necessary. In the day-to-day it is all we can do to maintain the board, homeschool our own 4 boys (and all that goes along with having a high-schooler, 6th grader, 2nd grader, and a 4 year old), plan to write a new guide and all that is encompassed in that (which takes the bulk of our year), answer phone calls and emails, ship products and maintain a warehouse, find replacements and type replacement schedules for any books that have gone out-of-print for any of our guides, keep the website up-to-date on products and pricing in addition to adding all new products for the new guide each year, complete the Student Notebooks for each new guide, creating new ad layouts for magazines, designing a new book cover each year, work on the catalog for the upcoming year, preread all books to plan for a new level of DITHR packs, correct any mistakes in our guides prior to sending them for reprinting, apply for conventions and prepare for exhibiting and setting up 4 booths at each convention (along with updating pricing on all booth display copies, making flight arrangements, hotel reservations, direction sheets) etc. etc. Not to mention running a household, laundry, cooking, etc. Anyway, you get the picture!

We pray you will continue to enjoy the HOD programs with the little bit of copying that is required to use them. LHTH and Beyond are the only guides that require a bit of copying, and I must admit it is a far cry less copying than most programs we've used ourselves prior to writing our guides. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Oh carrie, I just want you to know how thankful I am for all that you do. :) My older son just started Beyond last week (which we are loving, btw :))and your post totally reminds me of his Bible verse this week..... "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9 Please know you are very much appreciated!! :)

I went to the local office supply store and did this. It was such a great help.

Thanks for suggesting this, Beth! :D :D :D

Hi, Carrie!

I'm sorry it took me so long to respond to you! I didn't see your response until just recently. :D :D

I totally understand that my suggestion would be a low priority for you right now. In fact, I have no idea how you are possibly able to accomplish all that you do!!! (Well, I'm sure it's by the grace of God!)

I took Beth's suggestion and copied everything we needed for the whole year at an office supply store, and that has made Little Hands very easy to use.

I'm so thankful for HOD! :D
Blessings,
Elisabeth
