Adding in LHTH....

Post by MistyP » Fri Aug 27, 2010 2:04 pm

We have finished our 2nd week of Beyond with my older 2 and it has gone well. We usually start about 9-9:30 and are done by noon. My biggest struggle has been keeping my 2yo out of trouble!

I want to do LHTH with my 2 yo and 4 yo. My 4 yo loves to "do school" and would happily color and do work sheets for an hr or two! The 2yo just isn't on that level. I am struggling with getting LHTH in. Not sure if I should try to get them done first and then hopefully occupied in something else and start school with the older 2 or work it in later. I really don;t have any "downtime" with the older 2;s school except when they are doing copywork which isn't enough time to get LHTH done. I think we only got 2 days done this week :(

Any suggestions to help with my scheduling? Or any suggestions on keeping the 2 yo busy while I work with the older 2? She will play well with toys with the 4 yo but then the 4 yo wants to be with us in school so the 2 yo doesn't want to play by herself.... We tried playdough today, it was a disaster plus very distracting for the older ones.

I'd just do LHTH with the 4 yo and enjoy it! :D I would have your older 2 dc play with the toddler away from you in a safe area for 20-30 minutes while you do LHTH with just the 4 yo. That's what we do - works great! :D Here are some other ideas for the toddler for the rest of the day:

Definately do LHTH first. It only takes 30 minutes, maybe. I wouldn't worry about the 2 yr old either. Just let her join in the fingerplay and like someone else suggested, have the two older ones watch her. It isn't that long that they would have to do it.

Misty,

The ladies have already done a great job of helping you. :D One other possibility if you do decide to go the LHTH route would be to split each day of LHTH into two days (doing about 15 minutes each day). This way you don't have to completely redo your schedule but your littles get some special mommy-time too. There are many ways to divide LHTH in half, and any way you feel is best will work. :D

There are moms who do this that would likely be willing to share how they do it, if that is helpful. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
