Common Place Book?

Post by yaya »

Hello,

What is a Common Place Book? I did a forum search and from what I gathered it looks like it is a composition book or a notebook. Is this correct? Just want to be certain. ;)

TIA,

Yep. You've got it. We chose to get a little more "special" one since we'll be using it for more special (timeless, worthy of being remembered) quotes. Some moms use a composition book, others use a journal of some kind.

The Common Place Book is explained in the "Introduction" of the guides. Here's the portion that should help out:
Students also need a Common Place Book for their copywork. A
Common Place Book is often a bound composition book with lined pages. It
provides a common place to copy anything that is timeless, memorable, or
worthy of rereading. It is for copying text and not for original writing. Bible
verses, classic poetry, and passages from excellent literature with beautiful or
vivid wording are often included. Students will add to the Common Place
Book throughout the year.

We found a lovely one at the link I gave in this post:

Have fun choosing your special Common Place Book! :D Wyatt's in his 3rd year of adding to his, and it just is a neat keepsake. :)

Here is the updated link to Julie's common place book...the one she has listed no longer works but I *think* this is the one she was trying to link too.

I bought a nice composition book to use for the Common Place book, but I was wondering if the CTC (or other) guide tells us when/what to add to it, or is it just something we kind of add to on our own when we want to remember something neat?

Heather,

In the CTC guide, it tells the student when to add to the Common Place Book. At the end of each unit the student will be copying their verse in there. It might be something different for the other guides, haven't encountered those yet! :D

Hope this helps!

I was wondering if the Preparing guide tells the student when to use in it. We started school this week and my dd keeps asking me when she gets to write in it. :D Thanks!

Hi beandip! Good to see ya :D - yes, the PHFHG guide will let students know when to use the Common Place Book. :D I hope you are off to a good start. We'll be starting up soon too. I'm getting excited!

I'll just pop-in to agree that each guide will tell the child when to use the Common Place Book. :D It occurs in the guides in Preparing Hearts on up! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
