Got the teacher's guide today...

And my boys are very excited! I was looking through the book, and came to the hide and seek A page, and they were jumping up and down, very excited

Then, my mother surprised me by getting the devotional that I wanted and the CD from the bookstore and bringing it by. I just need to pick up some extra supplies and make some copies and we'll be starting!

I was told today that Kansas is currently trying to pass a law to change the compulsory school age from 7 to 6

My oldest turns six in November. I wasn't worrying too much about getting us registered, etc right now, because I knew we had a year before really worrying about that! I did so today, all we have to do is register as a private school, we don't have to be approved or anything. So, we're officially a private school now! Let the fun begin!

Hi Sasha! HOORAY! I'm sharing in your excitement as I read your post! So, now you are an official private school - isn't it crazy the hoops we need to jump through to do what Abe Lincoln's mom just did on her own?!? So glad that works though, and I know your boys will enjoy HOD as much as all mine do - after all, Carrie's children are all boys - so she knows how to write a curriculum that gets kids up and moving!!!

WooHoo!!! Doing the happy dance with you!!! How cool of your Mom to pick up the devotional and CD!

We are actually playing the CD right now. It is soooooo upbeat and fun!! I can NEVER play just one song though. When I look as though I am about to turn the player off Hannah starts saying "SONGS!" Her way of saying I want more.

So we listen to them over and over, which is fine with me.

Hannah loves circling her letters on the hide and seek pages. She will circle the letter I tell her to circle then proceed to circle the rest of them.

I am so glad your los are excited!! That means a lot!

We have very laid back hs laws here in Mississippi too. All I have to do is let the super know the names of my kiddos each year, and the subjects we will cover. Right now I have none of compulsory age as my oldest 3 are 18-21 and my youngest is not 3 yet. I think the compulsory age begins at 6 here, but I really need to check to be sure.

Still doing the happy dance!!

I found out that all I need to do is register, and keep a copy of that. I don't have to check in each year or anything, once you're registered, you're good from here on out. No required testing or reporting attendance or anything. It's incredible when I look at other states and what they require.

It is *very* nice to find this program, written by a mom who *understands* having all boys!

My boys go and go and go until they just crash. I know all the activities are going to be loved, and I love how each bit is short enough that I won't lose them. Looking forward to posting picture updates soon!

So glad it turned out to be easy with the registering. We have pretty easy laws too but we have to start reporting attendance at age six as well. I am trying to decide when I will report my youngest just to give her credit.

NY is trying to drop compulsory age from 6 to 4.
Our paperwork is considerable as well.

Don't cha know it takes a village to raise a child AND s/he is not YOUR child but belongs to the state????

Four is beyond terrible!!!

How cool is that!! I do thank God that I live in a hs friendly state, but I always worry that I will forget to register in time each year. I think it is a 10 day window (could be wrong about the number, but is is not a lot) from the first day the local schools start up that I have to ride down to the super's office and register.

One year we had this horrible super that would insist that we busy moms would go sit in his closet sized office (I kid you not about the size!!) and fill out the forms with him watching!! Now you picture this : I only had 3 kids and it was stressful for me, but my friend had 6. We had to fill out a card for each child with name, address, and subjects covered for that child with him watching. Talk about brain freeze! THEN he wanted us to put the publisher of each subject taught!!! (NOT a requirement of MS!!) So 3 kids (6 for my friend) times 5 to 6 subjects each and publishers for each!! I looked him square in the eye and said I used all sorts of publishers and there is no way that I could think of all of this right now and I had kids in the van and errands to run. The next year we were allowed to pick up our forms and return them when we wanted within the time span window after enough moms gripped about this guy.

Before that we had a sweet super, but she was killed in a car wreck.

Sounds like everything is falling into place very nicely! Have/will you be coming up with a name for your private school? I always thought that seemed so fun to come up with a unique or fun name!

I'm so glad your boys are excited and that you are too!

Little boys just need to be moving (at all times) it feels like at our house! We often kid my sons that they sound like a herd of elephants as they move about the house. They can do NOTHING quietly. But, their exuberance is catching!

momof2n2, oh my goodness! That is really crazy. I was getting really upset because as the time drew closer to kindergarten (which at the moment is still not compulsory), I began to realize that because I did not put my children in preschool at 2.5 like the majority of other parents, my children are really pretty far behind. That is just crazy!! Let our children be children! I want them to run around, and learn about the house, about their environment, about being in our family, I don't need them sitting in a classroom! All children are "tested" at the beginning of K and in order to be in a regular class, they need to be able to write all their ABC's, their full name (first, middle, last), their full address, their phone numbers. They need to be able to count to 20 I think...This at the beginning of K. I'm fairly proud that they can count to 10 right now! I always thought K was for learning your ABC's and numbers, colors, shapes. Not anymore, apparently.

I am so sorry. I have seen that NY is one of the stricter states. We did live there for four years, but I went to ps then.

Susie, that is very strict! I have my hands full with 3 boys and want things to be easy for me, lol. I couldn't imagine the mom with 6 kids trying to sit in an office to get all that done. I'm glad that he eased up a bit on that. How sad about the super that died in a car wreck

Candice, I admittedly am not very creative

We just named our school Jahay Family School. You have no idea how long it took me to come up with the name for my doula service

My dh said that he liked it, it was straight to the point, lol. I would say it's unique, though, not many Jahay's out there!

Carrie, yes, we have lots of energy in our home! They just run and run until they crash, basically. We had a lot of fun jumping and crawling today, and there were lots of smiles all around, so that's success!

Well don't you know that K is the new 1st grade and 1st is the new 2nd therefore pre -k or k4 is the new k.

Gee I thought everyone knew we were supposed to teach algebra to our 1st graders
