We were going to start HOD today (prayer request)...

Post by Heather4Him » Mon Aug 16, 2010 10:25 pm

I was all set to start our 8th grade year with our wonderful new HOD CTC curriculum, but we've had a few set-backs that we needed to delay our start until next week.

A few days ago our fully-finished basement flooded (sump-pump back up with the heavy rains), and we have an insurance "rider" that was supposed to cover just this thing. So, the insurance company told us to go ahead and have Servpro come and start the clean-up, which we did, and they came the next morning and 3 people worked for 8 hours and still weren't finished!

Then, the next day, the insurance company calls and they are trying to get out of paying our claim (after the clean-up company had already done between $3500.-5000. worth of work! That's without them putting anything back together or finishing the clean-up.)

Now, our basement is a disaster (because carpet has been ripped up, linoleum torn up, baseboards all removed, all the furniture and personal belongings moved everywhere and put up on blocks, I can barely get to my washer and dryer, can't find anything we need, etc.) It just feels so overwhelming!

Then, to top it all off, I've been sick almost two weeks. It just started as a very mild cold, but I'm worried that it may be turning into bronchitis or pneumonia (which I've had 2 of the last 3 summers)! I'm so tired and can't stop coughing, etc., but I hate to go to the doctor if it's just viral and they can't do anything.

SO, my husband said it would be fine to hold off on school until at least next week or when we can get things more settled around here and I'm feeling better again. I know God will work this all out for our good (Romans 8:28) and His glory, but in the meantime we're just trying to keep afloat (pun intended!) ;) We really have no idea how we are going to pay for everything if the insurance company doesn't cover this.

Could you please remember us in your prayers if you wouldn't mind? We are just feeling overwhemed and a bit deflated. I really want to get a great start to our homeschool year, especially since I'm so excited to start our HOD and DITHOR!! Thanks and love to all!!
Love in Christ,

You definitely have a full plate right now. Praying for your family and that everything will work out with the insurance company. I think you have made the right decision to delay school for now.

You are definitely in our prayers.

If you don't mind, I would like to offer you just a small piece of advice. Start that curriculum with your child as soon as you can...even if you are still feeling overwhelmed next week. There is nothing that lifts my spirits more than listening to my son talk about the Bible and the Lord with me. I enjoy his work in CTC as much as he does. Don't let Satan stop you in your tracks when God is at work - and He is at work in your lives or you would not be starting CTC with your son. Trust me that the blessings you will receive from this curriculum (all guides) can put peace in your heart and calm the storms of life through your faith and your child's faith.

Many prayers and hugs to you.

I will be praying for you.
We went through something very similiar but atleast our insurance company was helpful. Even so, it was almost a year before our home was back to normal. Our damage was right in the middle of our living area! It was awful but we came through it.

We're praying for you and your family, too, Heather! :D

Situations like this seem to draw us closer to the Lord. It's sometimes hard to see it as a blessing at the time, but anything that brings our hearts to a greater dependance on our Lord and Savior is a blessing! I pray that things will come together for you and you'll be able to start soon! :D

In Christ,

Lisa

I know this is very off topic, and that you did not ask for advice, but i wanted to offer some only to be helpful :D (i prayed for you also) Anyway, I happen to be very "natural"... if i had brochitis i would take oraganol, it is about $30 and is put out by the north american herb and spice company and you can probably get it at a health for store... or i would take garlic pils and a good probiotic. if you are really interested you could pm me, for how much to take and any other info. oh and btw they are both antiviral. I am sure that the insurance company will have to honor their commitment :D

Thanks to everyone who has prayed and is praying for us. I can feel your prayers!

UPDATE: I finally went to the doctor today (after being up from 3-5am coughing), and he confirmed my suspicions about bronchitis (and also said I had fluid in my ears, etc.) He put me on an antibiotic, as well as my allergy medication that I hadn't been taking (since I only take it as needed, and wasn't having allergy symptoms).

Also, we haven't heard back from the insurance company today like we were supposed to, but the adjuster was here yesterday and said that she was "leaning in our favor". So, please keep praying if you don't mind, and I will let you all know when we hear their decision.

Hopefully, with the antibiotic and lots of rest, I will be feeling much better in a few days and we can start our exciting new HOD on Monday! :)

Thank you for this information! I saw this after I got back from the doctor and started my antibiotic (and acidophilis), but I like to know of natural things to try for future reference! :)
