question about science curriculum for beyond little hearts

Post by jacynamommy » Fri Aug 06, 2010 8:15 am

Good morning! We used Little Hearts last year for my son, who was in kindergarten. We loved it! It was such a huge blessing to me, especially as a first year homeschooling mom! We're moving him up to Beyond Little Hearts this year. I have a question about the science curriculum, though. We used the kindergarten level of science last year. I noticed that Beyond uses the second grade science book (God's Wonderful World). Will we be skipping too much if we "skip over" the 1st grade science book (Our Father's World)? Thanks so much for your advice.

Hello,

It will be perfectly fine to get going with God's Wonderful Works, along with Beyond, after finishing up The World God made used along with LHFHG.
I know the science options for LHFHG are set up to give you a choice between The World God Made OR Our Father's World, (as well as God's Wonderful Works, actually).
And after the completion of either of those you can easily transition into God's Wonderful Works.
I don't think you would be missing anything by not using OFW because the heart of the science lessons are found within Carrie's science activities.
So, if you are progressing from one guide to the next you are right on track for covering any key science concepts. I believe the science texts are included more as support material, or "text connections" for the science lessons, rather than the bulk of the lesson.

I hope that makes sense, I see that I was a little wordy here

Welcome to the HOD Board! I agree with Candice. :D We actually bought both "The World God Made" and "Our Father's World" science when we did LHFHG, and I thought they were quite similar in content. We ended up just doing 'The World God Made" even though we owned both (as it was scheduled in the daily plans) . Both really do work well with LHFHG, but "God's Wonderful Works" was excellent for Beyond, and "Our Father's World" is not a prerequisite for it. :D Have fun with Beyond! It's a fantastic year of American history. :)

Thank you ladies so much for your replies! I am new to this board (I'm not sure why I never used it last year), but I look forward to the encouragement and support!

I'm glad you're here now, and if you're someone who likes to be encouraged and who likes to give encouragement, you'll be here often! :D This is one of my favorite hang-outs. I look forward to getting to know you here and to sharing our HOD year with each other. :D
