HOD has been such a blessing!
HOD has been such a blessing!
I was just reading through some freebies I downloaded from currclick.com and was thinking how thankful I was for having Heart of Dakota!
We started considering homeschooling several months ago, I spent a lot of time looking at different stuff online, so overwhelming! Someone recommended Heart of Dakota, I was so thrilled with everything I saw! We went to FL homeschool convention, looked at TONS of stuff and when DH and I sat down at the end of the day, I pulled out the little HOD catalog and said....nothing else measures up! I really wanted something I could use for both K & 1st grade....everyone else told me I couldn't do it with their curriculum....
We are on Unit 7 of LHFHG. My girls (6, 5, & 3) love it! It has been so easy to tweak it to fit our family. Due to financial circumstances, I have gone back to work as an RN and DH does school 1-2 days a week. It is fairly easy for me to write everything out for him the day before and then he follows the boxes I worked Thursday night; he asked the girls if they wanted to do something fun on Friday (of course!) so they jumped in after supper and did their school for the next day. Friday morning they took a picnic and played in the fountains.
My daughters told me this week they are glad we are homeschooling; DD #1 said she didn't like waiting for someone to pick her up after school! I am glad we are involved in what our children are learning. The lessons are so short and simple; they don't get bored. I am amazed at what all they are learning. They were singing the Rhymes in Motion from Unit 1 while playing outside the other day. Even our 3 year old is trying to say the Bible verses.
I know others that have really struggled with homeschooling and feel blessed that everything has gone so smoothly for us. DH has commented several times that he is thankful that I researched it out and found what would really work for our family instead of just going with what"everyone else did!"
Thank you Carrie for pouring your time and energy into this! Julie, I love your devotional too
Blessings!

Misty - I love to read about couples working together, heading in the same direction for their dc. I'm so glad your family is enjoying LHFHG, and you and your dh are doing a great job of working together to give your dc a great homeschool experience. I've had to have my dad or mom hop in and teach some HOD days once and awhile, and they did well with it too. The plans are just easy to share! I hope you continue to enjoy my devotional too - thanks so much!

Misty,
I am so glad that you and your little sweeties are enjoying LHFHG! We enjoyed it so much last year with our own little guy too.
It can be overwhelming to research curriculum and find the Lord's best for your family. I'm so glad that you are happy with your choice. We know the Lord takes care of bringing those to HOD who will be blessed by it.
Thanks for sharing! Your post uplifted me so much today!
Blessings,
Carrie

I am very encouraged by your post and I am happy to hear that your husband has no problem picking up the lessons when you work. I do not work a job outside the home but I do take care of my Grandmother-in-law who lives with us. On my husband's days off I often have to bring her to doctors appointments, sometimes multiple appointments in the same day. In the past it has been too hard for him to know what he should be doing, I hope this will make it easier on him.

What I have found really helps is writing everything down that isn't in a box on a sheet of paper for him. I figured it was fairly easy and all laid out but he was totally confused the first few times. I said " why didn't you just ASK them what Reading and Math they were suppose to do??" He checks it all off as he goes. Like, Spelling-review 4-5 words. Reading-Karissa 100 Easy Lessons #64, Kaylee-Early Bible Reader pg 175+, Math-Karissa Primer 10A & 10 B, etc.kissesmomof4 wrote:I am very encouraged by your post and I am happy to hear that your husband has no problem picking up the lessons when you work. I was just reading this post I wrote almost a year ago. About a month after we started homeschooling. It brings tears to my eyes to realize how much we we have conquered in the past year.
God is good and I just want to praise Him today!!
