Is there a list of what I need to get for BHFHG?

I've just placed my order for Bigger HFHG....YAY

In looking over the introduction pages, I can see I will need a dictionary, index cards, sketch books etc. Is there complete list of things I need to get anywhere?

We don't have a car so I need to make sure I get what I need when I'm at the store and I don't want to miss anything.

I don't have a master list, but I can tell you off the top of my head what I have found important. (warm smile)

1- Art Supplies.

We use tempra paints, paint brushes, colored construction paper, White card stock, tape, white boards w/ markers, (Millers sells lap size white boards we use for spelling and copywork. I LOVE them!) I use little "stickies" to hold the pages in my manuel were flipping back and forth to and from. (I order from Millers Pads and Paper, they have AMAZING warehouse prices and carry so much more than a normal store)

LAP SIZE white board! (we use this a LOT)

(This shows the size "stickies" I buy and I don't know if you can see how much I highlight right in my manuel, but it helps me stay on track easier

2- Notebook.

You could simply get each girl their own 3-ring notebook or I use notebooks from Millers pad and paper. (Science)

Spiral bound notebook for 4th grade on up!

History

I also use highlighters to highlight what we're doing

Important- I am just sharing what we USE and what I have found to help me be successful with Bigger in my home. You do NOT need all of these things. I'm just sharing some idea's.

If you are looking just for the basics, then you don't need to lap size white boards, that kinda thing

Annie,

How exciting that you got your order placed!

Mary did a great job of helping you with the supplies question. You are also right in looking through the introduction pages of "Bigger..." as that is where we list items that you'll need all year long.

Basic art supplies are the other necessary items you'll need. Beyond that there really aren't any strange items from week to week needed in the guide, making it truly open-and-go. We don't even have you use empty plastic bottles or cans or things that aren't easy to have on hand.

To give you an example, the only supply I haven't had on hand so far THIS YEAR was whipping cream to make butter. Usually in each guide, we only have 1 or 2 experiments or lessons a year that require something like that. The rest use supplies that are right in your house already (or can be substituted for easily). At our house, I don't plan ahead for supplies at all.

Hopefully, some other moms may chime in with what they've found too! The board is often slower on the weekend.

one of the great things is that almost everything Carrie asks for is some thing I have had in the house. I did have a bit of trouble finding 1 or 2 items like 2 balloons (I had one lol ) but a bit of creative thinking and I was able to come up with subsitutes.

Some one made a huge list but as i read it I said "I have that, and that, and that, and that, and that ect.. )

Ditto to what Tansy said! I think you'll find what you need on hand already, and like Tansy said, just getting a little creative fixes anything else! Once I used fruit loops instead of Cheerios - not rocket science, pretty easy to do! It did help me to do what you are doing - I went through the introduction and made a short list of the items I needed for which suggestions I wanted to choose - i.e. binders, clear sleeve protectors, index cards, etc.

As Mary wisely suggested, Miller Pad and Paper is an awesome, inexpensive place to shop for your basic art supplies - white drawing paper, markers, dry erase boards, paints, etc. They have it ALL - and it is a good quality and doesn't cost much!

So excited for you to begin Bigger - We're about 2/3 of the way through, and I know you're going to have a great time doing it!

well, to be quite honest, we arent' crafty people (take that statement however you wish!

)
But, we don't have a lot of tape, glue, glitter, paint, etc around the house. We don't even have constructon paper, usually!
but I've never had to NOT do something becuase I didn't have the supplies.

We do have crayons, white paper, scratch papers, pencils, and lots of 3 ring binders. I used to scrapbook, so we have some fancy decorative papers from that and some rubber stamps, but they hardly ever get used.
My school shopping list is always the same:
crayons
pencils
pencil sharpener
rulers
3 hole punch
3 ring binders
file folders
envelopes
laminating pouches (they laminate everything...)
index cards

and that's about it!
