New here and question

Post by KimS » Tue May 25, 2010 1:15 pm

Hi ladies my name is Kim and this is my first year doing HOD. My son is 5 and we will start in the fall. I also have an 18 yo that graduated from our homeschool last year, a 15yo, 14yo (and only girl) and a 2yo. We have been homeschooling for 13 years. My oldest did Kindergarten in school but none of my other have ever been to school and Lord willing they won't have to.

My question is (and I emailed Carrie this question too) I am going to start LHFHG in the fall with my 5yo. I know my then 3yo will join in some but I am wondering if I can take 2 years with this and then when the youngest is ready to start start them both in BLHFHG. I know this depends on how well my 5yo does and how fast he progresses. But wondering if it would be doable.

Hi Kim, and welcome to the HOD Board! :D I think you'll find this such a positive place to get your questions answered. The ladies are very helpful and encouraging. Carrie is a very active part of this board, but she's in her heavy writing season, as well as gone to book fair conventions now - she's still reading the board each day though and responding as able. :D I'm glad you are asking your question here, and I'd be glad to help you. We have done LHFHG and Beyond twice with our different sons, and enjoyed them both so much.

I think you could easily do LHFHG over 2 years with your 5 yo, and the second year of it your then 4 yo could begin to join in more and more as the year progressed. Provided, your 4 yo does fairly well with this, I think that when your youngest is 5 and your oldest is 7, you could do Beyond Little Hearts with the 2 of them half-speed over 2 years. You could use the right side of LHFHG for the "basics' for your younger, and use Beyond as is for your older. This would be one option to consider.

Another option would be to do LHTH with the 2 of them this year, and have your 5 yo do the "basics" side of LHFHG. Then, the following year, you could do LHFHG half-speed with the 2 of them using the Grade 1 options for your older child. The year after that, you could do Beyond full-speed with the 2 of them.

HTH! :D
In Christ,
Julie

Kim,

I just wanted to welcome you as well! :D Julie had some great advice for you on ways to work toward combining your two kiddos. If you get a chance to pop back and let us know what you're thinking, we could talk through your options and answer any questions you might have! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
