Just some quick questions on ordering RTR. I have an 8th and 10th grader that I plan on using RTR w/ in the fall. We are finishing up TOG year 1 and planning to use DITHOR over the summer with some readings from the Ancients. My question is, when I order, do I order the Basic history reading books and the Extension pack books; are they totally different things? Does using the Extension pack for more in-depth reading negate the need for the basic set???

If you look at the example of the first day of RTR, you will see that Forbidden Gates (from the Basic History Set) is scheduled for you to read with them in the Storytime Box. So the Basic Set is part of your everyday schedule.
The Extension pack books are read by the students on their own in addition to this Storytime with you. I believe the extension books are scheduled in the appendix (they are in the other guides). So, since you have older students, you would want the Basic pack and the Extension pack. Does that help?

Thanks for the answer. I'm really looking forward to using RTR and want to be sure my kids get the best experience. I don't want them to have to wait while I order the books I should have ordered in the first place.

We are enjoying piloting it with our oldest son this year.
Don't forget to the make the choices provided within RTR's choices area to complete your program and make sure you have all of your bases covered. If you have other questions, ask away!
