Anyone switch from BJU to Sinagpore?

I just found out that BJU uses a textbook at 5th grade level instead of it's current worktext. This is a huge, huge turnoff for me and I can't believe I didn't see it. I was hoping to use this for the long haul. So I'll need to make a switch. Math programs all have different lingo and this entire thing pains me to start over.

Has anyone made this switch and have it work? I'm horrible at math and not sure if I can pull off Singapore. Saxon is out. Hate it. Any ideas?

We have used SIngapore from Pre K to 5th and liked it for the most part and will most likely use it again for my younger children but Singapore Math only goes thru 6th grade. What are you considering for 7th grade? SIngapore covers and teaches things differently than other programs. I would diffinitely check out there placement chart to see where to start if you chose Singapore because you might not fall right into 5A to start next year. We are actually considering Saxon for higher level math so my son is moving into Saxon 76 next year at the 6th grade level to get acclimated before it gets complicated. Hope this helps some. Math can be such a big decision!!! Thank goodness HOD is so great - I don't have to worry about that decision

7th grade...okay then that's out. I was hoping to use BJU all the way. I may have to grin and bear it because I don't want to make yet another change then too.

If you are wanting to switch now from BJU, but not to something that ends after middle school (forcing another switch), and you don't like Saxon ...You might like Life Of Fred. Don't let the fun appearance fool you! The first two are supplemental for the most part (Fractions and Decimals & Percents) and they aren't full year programs, the rest are complete, stand-alone programs, and it goes all the way to college-level math. You can start after your child has his facts down and knows long division. The site shows 1 pre-alg book right now, but there will be two more to complete the pre-alg year.

I use BJU Math and just wanted to let you know of a little tip that helped us with the change over from workbook to text book. BJU publishes a supplemental workbook (several actually) for each Math grade in the elementary years. I purchased the Spring into Action book for my dd to use (she's in 6th this year) and it has the same type of problems that the independent student page in the text book. The best part is that in this particular workbook the page number of the workbook matches the lesson number of the lesson she's on in her text book (so when we are doing lesson #101, she knows to do page 101 in her workbook). I know these go up to at least 6th grade. We'll be moving into 7th next fall and I haven't found out yet if she'll have to use the text or if there is something similiar avaiable.

Thanks Charlene. I just found this out last night. So I'm going to try it and not worry about it for now. The Spring into Action books sound like they'll work well. It'll be a while before I get there. We've changed math so much I don't want to make too many more changes unnecessarily. The textbook looks yucky. I'm also going to hold out for an update.
