Howdy Y'all! Thought I should introduce myself...

Post by faith0428 » Tue Mar 04, 2008 9:50 pm

OK, I really don't talk like that, but since I'm from TX it seemed appropriate. My name is April and I newly joined this group. Today I made my first post. Well, to be exact this will be my fourth already so I figured I should introduce myslef, but first I would like to say a BIG THANKS for all the friendliness and help from so many with the questions I've had. You are all great! :D

I am married to Andy and we will be celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary on March 14th (Today was the 13 year anniversary of when we met). I can't wait because we are actually getting to go somewhere overnight! Wow, that has only happened once since we have had kids and it was 3 or 4 years ago. Needless to say, we can't wait to get away. We aren't going too far from home and we will be bringing our 10 month old with us because I am still nursing. I'm pretty attached to my kids anyway. Not sure when I would feel comfortable going too far away for very long. This will be our 2 year old sons first time away from us overnight. His Grandma from MN and his two big sisters will be home taking care of him though, so he should be fine.

We have 4 kids - Savannah Hope is 6 (11/16/01), Amaris Love is 4.5 (6/25/03), Jadon Andrew - our only boy - is 2 (1/4/06), and Bethany Joy is 10 months (4/27/07). Where is Faith you might ask? Well that's me, April Faith and my birthday is 4/28 hence the user name faith0428 - I'm not that creative, sorry.

We live on 7 acres in Texas about 45 miles north of Austin. We are in a rural area which is nice. Sometimes the drive into town is long, but overall I love the country. I also grew up in the country on 3 acres and always knew I wanted my kids to live in the country and experience all the fun I had. That's why our goals when moving here were to have animals (chickens, horses, goats), a garden, and build a larger home (our current home is a 1400 sq. ft. mobile home). Well, so far the only animals we have are the ones that came with the place (birds, raccoons, armadillos, etc.), our two dogs, and our four fish. We've had a garden two out of the five years we've lived here and are planning on having one again this year - I better get busy on that. Not sure when the new house will come. We've been so busy growing our family that we haven't followed through on many of our initial goals yet. Also, my husband quit his full time job 5 years ago and started a plumbing company out of our home and that has taken up a ton of his time.

I absolutely love being a mom. I have always loved babies. As a child I always said I was going to be a baby sitter when I grew up. Not sure why I didn't say mommy. My sweet Amaris says all the time she's going to be a mommy when she grows up. She is definitely the little mommy. I always say she loves all things domestic - dusting, washing dishes, cooking. Savannah is our oldest and she is growing so fast I can't believe it. She's drawn towards art and music. Jadon is a sweetie and is all boy. Right now he is all about tractors, Diego, and Dora the Explorer. He just finally started talking and he really likes interacting with the Dora and Diego cartoons. Bethany has just started crawling and is exploring EVERYTHING. She has many characteristics and mannerisms of her big brother.

I will be starting LHFHG (and maybe BLHFHG too - still trying to decide) in the fall with my daughters who will be in Kindergarten and First Grade. I've always loved learning and really enjoy teaching my children.

Well, that's me. Probably way more than you needed to know. I tend to be an open book. Looking forward to getting to know some of you.

Hi April! Sounds like we have a LOT in common! We, too, live in a very rural area and have to drive quite a ways to hit "civilization". We, too, live in a very small home (I think your's is bigger than mine). When my dh told me he had found a farm for us to move to, his words were, "Oh, yeah, it does come with a house." Needless to say, we are anxiously awaiting the building of our house as well! We moved here 2 years ago to raise our kids in the country.

We also only leave our kiddos overnight once a year on our anniversary! I try not to miss them....

I really enjoyed your intro and look forward to getting to know you better. You're going to love HOD! :D

April, (((waving)))

I LOVED your intro! Welcome Welcome Welcome! I am SO glad you are here. I LOVE your children's names. They are just beautiful.

I am Mary from Florida. (just went to the beach Tuesday night and went swimming  ) I am married to my best friend Scott. We just celebrated our 20th anniversary on February 13th!

I have four boys:

Brandon Scott..., 16

Colton Lee..., 11 (will be 12 Sunday)

Seth Michael...., 7 (will be 8 Sunday)

Jacob James...., 5

We are finishing up our tenth year of homeschooling and love it more today than when I began, which I didn't think was possible. I came home from a nursing career to homeschool my children and have never regretted it.

I look forward to getting to know you better!

Don't want to hijack this thread, but I can't believe I missed this somehow on your blog.....your anniversary and my b-day are the exact same day!! How cool! Something to tuck away in my brain and hope I can remember next year....I was having a huge "18th" party and you were tying the knot!

Now back to saying "howdy" to April....

Hi Darcy, Nice to meet you. We've driven through Iowa many times on our way to visit my husbands family in MN. How blessed you are to have such a big family. I always smile when I see or hear about large families. Thankfully I have many years to prepare for teaching High School.

Hi Mary. I just love the beach. I don't get to go very often though. We went to Port Aransas, TX about 2 years ago. Before that I think it has been about 8 years since I had been. Congratulations on celebrating your 20th anniversary. Doesn't time go by so fast. Wow, how did you manage to have your 11 year old and 7 year old on the same day 4 years apart? Isn't it funny how things work out sometimes. I was in the hospital last year for my 30th birthday. My daughter was born the day before. Nice meeting you.

Hi Melanie. We live in Florence, TX. I couldn't even tell you the population. It's not much though. I just realized we will have been in our house 6 years this April. When we bought it our first child was 6 months old and I told my husband I thought I could live here 5 years, but I would want our house built by then. Well, needless to say we haven't even begun building our house. Hopefully that will come in the next year or two. Thanks for your help on one of my other posts! It was nice meeting you.

Hi blessedmomof4. Looking forward to getting to know everyone more.

Hi April!

I too live in the country and it's about 20 minutes to only gas, po box, and now a newly built grocery store. The 20 minutes is going 70mph! In a 65 of course!!

We live in a manuf home too, but it's larger....my dh has lots of stuff!!!!! We're in AZ. I want chickens but I don't know what to do with them after the egg laying. I'm not the kill'in type  so they'd have to be a pet or something; we need a goat for the weeds and my dh isn't old enough for a horse yet.

Welcome!

Hi, April. Welcome to the boards! I so wish we lived in the country. My husband and I both grew up on acres, roaming the woods, etc. Since we married, because of location and financial status at times, we've lived on only small parcels of land. Our goal is to eventually have several acres, with some animals, and a place for the kids to run! We don't know when or if it will happen....I know God has a plan; not sure if it is the same as mine in that area! Our high school was a 20 minute drive, and "town" was at least that, too. For a mall or anything "fancy" we had to drive 45 minutes to the next state. Today, we are only moments from all of these things, so though we long for country and quiet, we enjoy the conveniences, too.

Babies have been a love of mine for a very long time. I'm so thankful for our 3 blessings; I hope for more but only God knows when or if that will happen. I plan to, eventually, open a daycare out of my home, to help bring in more income and get my "baby fix" at the same time!

I'm glad to 'meet' you. I'll be around.

April,

Loved reading your "open book" and hearing the details of your children. My little Ashley, like your Bethany, is 10 months also. Her 1st birthday will be on the 10th of April. Can you believe your little one is almost a year old already?! Goes so quickly.

Glad you are here and welcome!

Hi April! So glad you are here! We live in the country on 3 acres, and I always wanted to raise our family in a place like this (only without the coyotes howling across the field)! Anyway, I LOVE the names you gave your children - I think you are very creative! Can't wait to get to know you more!

Hi April!

It's nice to "meet" you. :D We're in the country in NE Kansas, and love our space in the country! (My oldest has been saying things he loves about being in the country every day lately, as we were comparing it to the city and suburbs in the geography workbook we have.)

It's so fun to meet other like-minded moms here to enjoy homeschooling with! :D :D I so appreciate ALL of you!
