LHFHG 1st grade

Post by Tracee » Fri Mar 19, 2010 5:26 am

I was looking at the schedule and the first few pages of LHFHG that is available on the website in PDF format, but I'm confused about the 1st grade material. I see the schedule for the kindergarten material, but I don't see a schedule for the first grade material. Will the first grade material have a schedule?

Thank you,
Tracy

It does, it is just located in the back of the guide. Not sure if there is a way for you to see that without seeing an actual guide though. Maybe some one else can chime in on that.

I'll try to help...

The science & math options for 1st grade have schedules in the back of the guide. What I did this year for my son was to copy the page numbers in pencil to the correct unit/day prior to beginning our school year - it kept me from constantly flipping to the back of the guide.

If you are using Singapore Math 1A & 1B you'll want to purchase the textbooks (and/or the teacher's guide - I found this more helpful instead of the textbooks - but that's the teacher in me).

If you use the Thinking Skills workbook - it's actually written in the Fine Motor Skills box of the LHFHG guide I am using. I'm not sure why the PDF on the website shows only the Rod & Staff books for K options. Maybe the PDF is from an older edition of the guide?! Or maybe I have an older book?! Hopefully Carrie or Julie will answer this...

As for handwriting - the schedule includes only A Reason for Writing K and the Italic Book A. If you use the 1st grade options you'll have to figure out the pages on your own. There isn't a schedule in the back of the guide. We used our own handwriting this year, so I can't help you plan the pages - sorry!

If you opt to use the Emerging Readers with your child you may want to purchase the Beyond guide as the schedule is in it. We used a lot of the Emerging Readers this year but didn't follow a schedule - just read (and are reading) through them in the order listed.

If you'd like to see or have first grade math plans, you can see samples of it in Beyond, and that's the guide you'd need for the actual activities that go with it. The math schedule is in LHFHG as well, but the activities aren't.

ooh.. I hadn't thought about writing the 1st grade math schedule in the daily plans... thank you!! I was dreading having to use two manuals just for math...
