I did just want to chime in to let you know that you can be really rough on your lay-flat binding, and the book will still hold together! We drag ours everywhere around the house, and the kids use the guide as their own daily planner. So, it is VERY durable. We're on our second time around with our same copy of our guides, and even with all boys the manuals are still in ONE piece!
I am wondering if they might be too thick to be productive spiral bound. What do you think?
I did this with another program I used to use . I 3-hole punched it and it turned out to be almost 3 times thicker. Spiral binding will probably make it a bit thicker. But then too if I spiralled mine, I'd take out the independent, deluxe and poem schedules in the back and make them their own book. You may want to break it up.

I love to spiral bind, but I love my HOD guides AS IS. They have help up under "less than perfect" conditions.

When I received the first manual I thought to myself "this is never going to last....I bet pages will be falling out soon and I'll have to get it spiralled (is that a word? ). But it has withstood all manner of rough treatment, I'm very impressed and glad to know it will still be in one piece for my younger dd. I like to have it lay flat because then I can see both pages of the unit at the same time. I read someone's brilliant idea of putting tabs in so I could easily locate all the different parts of the program (why didn't I think of that?) and now its great! And my children are so impressed with the tabs it makes me laugh.

This is why I love the board. When I first started I did not know about the board or think to ask the spiral binding question. I have been with HOD since 2006 and just found out last year about the "lay flat" binding. So from this year on I will no longer spiral bind. Especially if you have more than 1 child going through it. The pages tear easily.
So, it was very wise of you to ask this question!
