Science
I cannot do all of the science in Bigger. I will also be doing another science program that will be considered our "main" one. Which science books are MOST closely related to the history topics being studied? Which have the most hands-on activities? Thank you for your help!
Re: Science
hopeallgoeswell,
I'll just move this post to the Main Board, so more moms will get a chance to see it. All new posts begin on the Main Board.
Blessings,
Carrie

Re: Science
Only you can know your goals, but I'd really encourage you to do the science in Bigger in lieu of the other science, as all of Bigger's science links to the history and has so many wonderful and necessary skills integrated into it that are pretty tough to teach well on the fly, as they are guided/taught so well in the plans:
Each unit includes the following science activities in coordination with the
read-aloud assignments:
*Day 1: practice narration by retelling the science story
*Day 2: create a science notebook entry
*Day 3: conduct an experiment related to the reading and log it
in a science notebook
*Day 4: practice narration by retelling the science story
*Day 5: conduct an experiment related to the reading and orally
discuss it
Here is a recent thread on Bigger's Science that may be of interest to you:

With all of this said, if you are still desiring to do just some of the science in Bigger, it is all linked to the history well, so I'd base it on how many units a book is used. OSS Seashore is used from Unit 1-Unit 5; Science in Colonial America from Unit 5-Unit 9, John Audobon Unit 10-14; OSS Woods Unit 15-18; A Pioneer Sampler Unit 19-31; Thomas Edison Unit 31-34
I'd really encourage you to give the science in Bigger Hearts a fair fun though, as our dc have learned to think scientifically, love science, and score well on standardized testing due to the way it has been taught in HOD.
In Christ,
Julie

Re: Science
Carrie,
I'm new Sorry for the incorrect placement of my question.
Julie,
I LOVE how the science and history tie together! BUT, we are finishing WinterPromise Animals and Their Worlds and have done 7 (yes 7) OSS over the past 9 months and [ *I* ]need a break for a bit from animals (we have also done both OSS in the Bigger package). Also, my dd is BIG on science so we will be adding other interest-led topics. Maybe I will use all but the OSS books because the others sound amazing!

Re: Science
Oh, thanks for clarifying that! I can see what you mean about OSS overload then. I was thinking that some ladies are new to the CM style of living books for science, and I didn't know if you were one of them. Obviously not - as you love them enough to do 9! Anyway, yes - I agree you'd love the other science resources - and a bunch of people have their posts moved to the main board at first - so no biggie there. I'm glad you are here and think you will enjoy HOD so much! Have a good weekend!

It was fun to read your post as we came from WP Animals and the All American to Bigger too! ( I was also tired of OSS series - not my child!) What I have found with the HOD Science is that for the OSS books that we already did we just skipped and supplemented with either other books from the library that my dc desired to read OR supplemented with a section from Considering God's Creation that I already had on my shelf. However, I do love the way HOD lays out the week in a pattern that easily lead my children to create a habit of writing and journaling about Science in a notebook. You will be very pleased to see how you can add in your extra Science to the already laid-out HOD plan. My 2 oldest dss are doing more Science than what is written currently and it has worked out beautifully for them!
