Weight Loss Support/Challenge!

Post by inHistiming » Tue Mar 04, 2008 2:28 pm

All right ladies, I'm looking for some support here. I am trying to lose 15 pounds- hopefully by Mid-April. That's approx. 2-2.5 lbs. per week. You have all been so supportive in the past, I thought I could depend on you all to keep me acountable. It's so easy to blow off my diet when I don't *feel* like doing the extra work to prepare healthy food. We eat fairly healthy anyway, but I really want to do this.

So, would you all be there for me, to encourage me and offer advice when I need it? And of course, if anyone wants to join me I would love a partner(s). I have not really struggled with weight too much; even now I'm barely over my "healthy weight". But, my mom is diabetic, all but two of her siblings (10) are diabetic and 3 out of 4 grandparents were diabetic. Plus, I was a baby that weighed over 9 lbs. and my last child over9 lbs.-all of these things increase my risk of developing diabetes myself one day. My mom has not taken care of herself very well. It saddens me to realize that she probably does not have much time left here on earth, due to her lack of concern for her health, or at least her inability to change her life permanently for the better food-wise. So, even though it's not a real problem right now, I want to get the *extra* weight off so I don't sruggle like she has when I'm older. Make sense?

So, who will join me?

I'm in! I just started today, but it would be great to have some "buddies"! My mom was type I diabetic and passed away at age 57 because she refused to take care of herself. My oldest brother is Type II diabetic , but does take care of himself-he is 6'2" and weighed over 300 lbs, but has lost a lot and now is about 220. My hubby is Type II and also refuses to take care of himself, and is very overweight-maybe I can inspire him... My dad has high blood pressure, but takes it easy on the salt now.
I'm not very overweight-15 to 20 pounds would be great-and so far, thank the Lord, no health problems-my blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol are all normal, but I want to take better care of myself as I get older.

I'm in too! I had gestational diabetes with my last baby and they say if I don't get the weight off my chances of getting diabetes is higher.

I started in Dec and have SLOWLY lost 6 pounds. My ultimate goal is 30 pounds (still from last 2 babies). I'm looking forward to Spring when I can get outside more and exercise and hopefully lose more. Diet changes are not going to be enough for me.

Let's all get healthy together!!

My 2 youngest and my favorite breakfast smoothie
1 cup applesauce
1 cup oj
2 cups strawberries
1/2 banana
blend til frothy (about a min)
serve up to the 3 of us
(add some slimfast powder to Mom's)

Kids get toast or something with it, but this has been my breakfast. It seems to work. If interested I have tropical fruit one too.

Yippee!! count me in....I've been trying for awhile. I need to drop 20-25. Should we have a weekly check in? I don't even own a scale, so that will need to be my first step.

Thank you Laurie for the recipe. I think that would be great if we could all share some of our favorites. I have some from my days with Weight Watchers (lifetime member :? )...

One of my WW breakfasts....1 cup yogurt sprinkled with 1/4 cup of Fiber One cereal.

I think we should have a weekly check in. I've been weighing on Fridays. You can post your starting weight and how much lost or, you can just post how much you've lost. I also think it would be nice, if anyone has questions or a special request regarding this, if we could be there for support and encouragement. I will make sure I check every day.

Momof4, I would love the Topical Smoothie recipe!

Thanks ladies, I'm looking forward to 'losing' with you! Shall we start 'officially' on Friday?

I think this would be great. I have been wanting to shed some of the extra weight that has yet to disappear since I had my daughter close to a year ago!

My husband even bought a treadmill for me and I have used it maybe 3 times, not good.

I like the weigh-in idea because I know it will keep me accountable and constantly focused on a goal.

I really need help with recipe ideas, I am so handicapped in that area!

Looking forward! Watch out fat and cellulite, here we come   ! ( I have been wanting to use those emoticons!)

I'm new here, but count me in! I need some accountability. :) I developed some health problems after my last pregnancy and the more weight I have on the worse I feel.
I have been telling myself pretty much every day "ok, THIS is going to be the day I get back on track with exercise,"and it rarely gets done. Maybe if I would get my rear off of this computer I would get it done.
I love the idea of the weekly check in.
See, it's working already; I feel like going and getting on my exercise bike! Great idea Ladies!!!

I'm in. I've tried to keep on track with an exercise program, but always fall off the wagon when I don't see the scale move.

I'm laughing sooo hard :D ...I just ate a piece of apple pie...right now....while reading posts..... and told myself that was my last!!!!

I guess that's not very helpful to tell each other to go have a "last snack"!

That's sooo funny! I do that with coca cola..."I'm not buying anymore; um, I just bought some so I have to get rid of them!!" This is why I said I needed a support group in the first place.....

Lunch-3 chocolate chip cookies

Snack-Pringles chips and small bag of carrots

Do I need help or what?!

I am already addicted to this board! I did just use my exercise bike.....HOLDING MY LAPTOP THE WHOLE TIME and checking this site and others. WE went from no internet at all to now- me not being able to put it down in the evening.(DH is working.) I never even knew what a blog was and now I am looking at all of these blogs and thinking that it is so neat to be able to share with like minded people this way.

I thought we all decided we were tall and skinny as long as we did not post our picture. Ok maybe not. I am actively dieting but I don't know if I can wrap my head around posting. But inspire me ladies and share all your secrets. I know I am up for that! :D
