Curriculum pet peeves - Sorry, I just can't relate!
I hopped over to another general home schooling forum this morning and was reading a few of the posts. One of them was about curriculum pet peeves. There were pages of little rants and annoyances that moms have with various components of the programs they use. Honest-to-goodness - for EVERY single pet peeve, I said to myself, "Nope, not a problem." I could not relate to the other posters in any circumstance. They griped about a range of things. I can see why those things would be annoying. I wanted to post a prideful comment about how I found HOD and don't have a single problem, but I kept my cyber-mouth shut! It was just another reminder of the wonderful quality of HOD and how enjoyable it makes home schooling my kids.

edited to add:...okay, so those aren't so bad It's the posts where they just have "life's peeves". That's just complaining about life.
These (curriculum) can be helpful and yep....I'm not having any of the peeves so far with HOD! Just say'in.

I agree with you whole-heartedly. Though our hearts are 100% here on the HOD Board, both Carrie and I make it a point to read other boards off and on from a researching new products standpoint. Then, I find I'm glad to scurry back here, where ladies are genuinely helpful, the atmosphere is encouraging, and the comments and questions are made in a Christlike way. One thing I have personally had to learn the hard way when I've fallen into complaining or feeling sorry for myself - it never makes me feel better. It doesn't make anyone else feel better or help them either.
Phil. 4:30: Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
I've also tried to transfer this verse to not only what I think, but what I say, do, and even type. It's not easy, and I still mess this up. But it's worth the effort. Nope - I can't relate either.

We were just talking about complaining (more specific - ungratefulness) in our prayer group last night. How when we let it start to take over in our conversations, it weakens us in other areas of our life. We are more apt to say mean words to others or not do our best work, or whatever.
I don't post alot here, but I do check in alot. I'm so grateful to have a place to come that is so warm and inviting. When people do have issues with something in the curriculum (cause it just doesn't work perfectly for everyone - we are all different and each of our kids are different), ALL of you ladies handle it with such love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness and self-control.
No pet peeves here, either.

Being part of a prayer group is such a special thing to be a part of! I so agree with you, Laurie. Ungratefulness and complaining really do go hand in hand. I actually think this is more of a specific struggle for women than it is for men, as we tend to share our feelings more through talking any way we can (on the phone, in person, on the Internet, through email, etc.) . Anyway, it is hard to overcome this, especially if it's ingrained itself as a habit. Have you ever met a pair of friends that have encouraged this habit in one another? I have met some wonderful ladies that are so upbeat and encouraging, until they get around a certain person, and then the 2 of them just spiral downward together. It's so very sad to see, and a great reminder to me as I can recognize the seeds of that starting in me, usually, as you said for being "ungrateful" about something, even though I know the Lord is blessing me in many ways daily. I've had to make a mental point to stop the talk before it "goes there" with some friends/family I have realized I am more prone to fall into that type of conversation. I think controlling what we type is actually harder than controlling what we say, especially within the world of emails, boards, PM's, etc.
On the flip side, have you ever met a pair of friends or a married couple that made a point to be grateful and to not complain? These are the people that are truly happier in life - not because their lives are better and not because their lives are without problems, but that they choose to see their lives through the lens of Christ. I want to fall into that category. This is something to strive for daily, as it is a balm to the soul and more importantly, pleasing to the Lord. Well, perhaps as it is Sunday, I have enjoyed going on about this more than usual, but it is with the intent to celebrate the ladies on the HOD Board, and to say - you are the kind of ladies I enjoy getting together with, because you bring out the best in me - thanks!

I am so grateful for HOD. Homeschooling is challenging sometimes, and it is so nice to have a wonderful curriculum in place that meets the needs of my family, is Christ-centered, and
comes with the support of Mike, Carrie, Julie and a great group of ladies. This is heaven on earth. No pet-peeves or gripes here. By the way Carrie, my 8th grade son who didn't like R&S 6 has decided to give it another try. Isn't that great!

I'm so glad to hear that this board is a blessing to you! We pray that it will be and try to be diligent in that pursuit!
On a sidenote, Diane, I'm glad you decided to give Rod and Staff 6 another try. Just be aware that Level 6 is very challenging and depending on how much previous grammar instruction your son has had, you may need to either back up to Level 5 or do Level 6 at a slower speed to aid in retention and spread the content out a bit. I couldn't remember what your oldest son had for grammar instruction before, so this is just a thought as you'll know best!
