Books on C.D./tape, where?

Post by momofone » Mon Feb 15, 2010 8:08 am

Carrie/Julie or anyone else, where do you get your books on tape? I know the library has some and so does Scholastic. Just wondering if there's a better source out there???
Thanks in advance. :D

Oh, I almost forgot! WE HAVE SNOW IN NORTH MISSISSIPPI TODAY!!!!! Only about an inch, but still enough to play a little in! This is a big event!

Our library is a pretty good source. I'm sure it does depend on the library though as to what kind of selection there is. If you have extra cash lying around (okay, I know none of us really have it just sitting there with no use whatsoever), or if you feel you could make the investment in some excellent quality audio books that you would play through several times, The Learning Parent (just google it and it will take you to their website) has some excellent audio books for Bible stories and different biographies of American Heros and such. There is some really great stuff there! :-)

Our library has some titles, but I would like to have more.

That is an excellent website! They do have several titles that I am drooling over. I just might have to splurge a little, kwim?
Thanks again!

We get most of our audio books from Blackstone Audio or Amazon. Blackstone Audio used to have a homeschool discount, so be sure to ask about that in case they still do. :D Here's a link that may be helpful too:

Does this help?
We often pull stories from storynory or thestoryhome online and drop them into my kids ipod.
Not all the stories are suitable so please preview prior to use. But they are free and do have things like Aesops fables.

"Books should be free" ( http://www.booksshouldbefree.com/genre/Children ) is a website that has LOTS of free audio book downloads. All are public domain so there are no copyright issues at stake. We have downloaded many (some are from Carrie's suggested book list too! :D ). They have lots of really good childrens titles, but they are just audio books, not read alongs that have the "ding" to tell you when to turn the page. Hopefully this helps. 8)
