What comes next? New question added
I am looking at doing CtoC with my kids. Is there plans for another volume?
I am so confuzeled. I spent all of yesterday pouring over several Curriculums. HOD by far is my most favorite. I read that there is another volume coming after CtoC
Can I get help with placement? I have two 14y/o who are learning challenged. A 13y/o who is very bright and a 9y/o reluctant learner.
14y/o girl: She can read at a 5.5 grade level, and read the dictionary for fun this summer. She has mastered he times tables(mostly) She was in grade 8 with and IEP
14y/o boy: He can read at a late 3rd grade to an early 4th grade level, struggles greatly with spelling and is beginning to master his times tables. He was in grade 8 in P.S. with an IEP
13y/o boy: is very bright. He is learning his multiplication tables, reads at a late 5th grade level. Can read to learn. He has passed his older brother academically and can spell well. He was in grade 6 in P.S. with an IEP for math.
9y/o boy: He can read at an early grade 3 level and spells well He is beginning multiplication in math. He was in 3rd grade in P.S.
While my two 14y/o are struggling they are still 14 turning 15 in April. They are teenagers with all the teenage angst of P.S. kids. Please can you help me.

Re: What comes next?
Yes, Resurrection to Renaissance (RTR) comes out this August. Actually, you can look at the books in the bookstore link now. You have to scroll way down to the bottom. The package is supposed to be on the homepage by mid February and you can order the books this spring I believe (I think I saw that in a thread somewhere), the guides this August.

Re: What comes next? New question added
Thats a relief. I had spent all day going over different curr. It wasnt until the very end that I realized I didnt see anything after CtoC. I am thinking that CtoC is the one I want but Im not sure. My kids are special needs and have some learning difficulties. They are adopted and English is their second language. They are fluent in English now but occasionally run across a word that they dont remember or even know.

Re: What comes next? New question added
Can you look over the placement chart and let us know where each child best fits individually? That would help everyone get a better idea of placement options for you.
My initial thoughts are to start with Preparing Hearts and add in extensions for the olders if you think they could handle it, plus DITHOR 2/3 or 4/5 for the 9yo and DITHOR 4/5 for the 13 and 14yo's then moving into DITHOR 6/7/8 after that. You could look at the DITHOR book packs to see which of those packs would fit each child best or choose your own for each genre. Each child would have their own level of R&S Grammar and Singapore math (or you own program choices for those areas).
You can find the placement chart here: http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php
I'm sure someone else will chime in with more info and options, especially once we know your thoughts on placement.
ETA: There are also 2 more guides planned after RTR!!

I totally missed the placement chart. In looking at it Preparing looks like a good fit I think. I believe that using the extension package for the two others is good also. I need to go over all this with HubbyMan and get his input too. We will come back with any questions we have. I just really like the feel of this curriculum. It feels gentle.

Picking the guide is the hard part, once you get it, it's easy and yet, so full! You'll love HOD!

Here's a chart from the main site that outlines present and future guides. I like to plan ahead too!

Re: What comes next? New question added
Oh thank you for the info.
We made our decision
We ordered Preparing and the extension pack as well as both basic and deluxe packs. We may have over done it but at least I'll have everything I need. HubbyMan said he'd rather that I have everything I need rather than find out I need something and not have it. Isnt he sweet?
We also bought MUS and Easy Grammar for them.
I got Easy Grammar because I have used it before, MUS I have not used but have heard good things about it. The way my kids struggle with math we thought it would be good to have something with manipulatives.
So what do you think? Am I covered?
I am now waiting for my packages to come.

Re: What comes next? New question added
Kasey - it sounds like you have your bases covered, and are in for an exciting year with PHFHG! Give that hubby of yours a hug too because I think the single most important thing to being successful with homeschooling (second to having the Lord be a part of it
) is to have all of the resources on hand you need. As far as MUS and Easy Grammar, we are partial to Singapore and R & S English - but HOD makes it easy to sub in your own math and grammar, so if that's what you are excited about, good deal.
As a back-up plan, both Singapore and R & S are excellent though, and often take less time than other programs. Anyway, HOORAY! I hope that mail man works fast so you don't have to wait long!
HOD has fast shipping, so it shouldn't be too long. Be sure to share your box day with us!
In Christ,
Julie

Oh Kasey I am so glad that you went with Preparing! We are just loving it! It's not too childish for your older ones and you will love how it will pull your family together! I can't wait to hear what you think after your first week or two!

Hi Kasey! I'm very excited for you, and your hubby is the best
My daughter and I are also using Preparing and I can tell you I agree it is not childish at all. I am learning from it as much as she is, and I have caught my 6th grader, 10th grader, and high school senior sneaking off with some of her schoolbooks to read
