Grandpa's Box

Post by LynnH » Thu Feb 04, 2010 3:41 pm

Tomorrow is our last day to read Grandpa's Box and Noah and I are so sad for that book to end. Noah says he doesn't want tomorrow to come because he doesn't want to be finished with the book. We have loved every chapter and he has already told me I have to save the book so he can read it to his children some day. I never would have found such a wonderful book on my own. Thank you so much Carrie for introducing us to it. He also realized we are almost done with Fountain of Life and he said "Oh no, not another one done." I love that he feels that way about these books. Fountain of Life took a little while to grow on him, but now he can't wait to see what Eli does in the last 2 chapters.

My daughter and I love that one too. We're just finishing unit 5 tomorrow...so start back up with CH. 5 of Grandpa's Box then, too. My daughter says she likes the 'ice age' book we've been reading but she loves Grandpa's Box and has been anxiously awaiting the day we will start reading it again. Can't wait, and I appreciate so much the awesome books included in all the HOD packages. :)

Lynn,

We loved Grandpa's Box as well! It was my son's favorite and brought the Bible to life for him in a whole new way. In all honesty, we know that the Lord brought this book to our attention, as I found it after months of searching and thinking I'd never find the book I knew was needed. When I originally read it I was hooked, and first scheduled into the Extension Package. Then, I moved it to the storytime part of the day. :D Finally, it dawned on me one morning during my prayer time that when paired with A Child's History of the World this book would tell the whole seamless story of world history, fully integrating Biblical and world history. I redid the sequence in the history box, and when I was finished the number of days in the guide perfectly matched the number of days needed for the school year. God is so good! :D

I am so glad you were blessed by Fountain of Life too. I agree that it takes a bit to get into that story, but it really made us understand the times in which Jesus lived and brought the Pharisees and Sadduccees to life like I've never understood before! :D

We pray you'll love Raiders of the Sea next. That one kept my boys on the edge of their seats! We loved it so much that we used the second book in the series in RTR! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
