CTC with extensions
CTC with extensions
Hi there,
We are planning to use the Extensions in CTC with our soon to be 13 yo son, I'm wondering if in light of that we should "drop" other portions of the daily lesson plan, like the Independent History?
Also, I know it' is on this board somewhere, but I can't seem to locate the breakdown of how long it should take to do each subject area in CTC.
Thanks.

Re: CTC with extensions
I have my 12 year old in 7th reading the extension and we did not need to drop anything. She's really enjoying it.
I think the full program is really doable for a 13 year old. I do not have a break down of the boxes. I know that the read aloud portion is less than Preparing and that my dd finishes the same time as everyone does. We added higher level science for her because that is her interest and that is working well for her. My other kids will do the program as written for 6th grade and I will have them read the extension as well. But I am the type that likes to get as much as possible.

So, do you do a separate storytime with her, using the recommendations from CTC or do you do a storytime with everyone? ARe you doing the higher level science in addition to CTC science or in lieu of?

Re: CTC with extensions
My oldest ds 12 is doing CTC this year, with the extensions. We are not doing the story time read alouds, but I do plan to do them when my dd 10 gets to CTC sometime next fall instead of the extension reading. She'll be 5th grade instead of 6th and I don't think she'll be ready for the extension pack yet. It usually takes my son about 4 hours to complete everything, depending on how much he dawdles with his math.
If we get started early enough we can finish by 12 or 12:30 but usually it is closer to 1:30 or 2 o'clock.

Just wanted to ask again, if anyone recalls where on the board it lists how long each subject area of CTC takes?deltagal wrote: Also, I know it' is on this board somewhere, but I can't seem to locate the breakdown of how long it should take to do each subject area in CTC.
