The Adventures of Happy Jack
The Adventures of Happy Jack
Have you read this book? It is also by Burgess but not a part of LHFHG. I own it, but have not read it. Should we read it while on spring break?
We will be on a mission trip to Mexico and I need to continue with a little bit of our home routine so that we are not starting from scratch when we return. Thought this book would be perfect, are there any surprises or is it in the same vein as the ones we are reading for LHFHG?
Thanks,
Dorla

It looks to be similar, to me anyway!Book Description

This time he recounts the adventures of Happy Jack Squirrel, who starts the day cheerily enough but soon finds himself trying every trick he knows to get away from his enemy, Shadow the Weasel. 4 black-and-white illustrations.

Dorla....could you do me a favor if you do read it? I am thinking of buying some more of these books since my kids love them so much. Could you let me know if you like it? Or anyone else who has some of the other titles....which ones did you really like?
Have fun in Mexico! Sounds like a great way to spend your Spring Break...mission work is always so uplifting.

Dorla,
I don't know the book but how could you go wrong with Burgess. Excited for you about your missions trip. I have a vision of going to a Spanish speaking country for a missions trip with all my kids when they have learned more Spanish. Please let us know all the details when you return!

My parents take a mexico vacation every year typicaly in the same area.
And every year they pack a suitcase full of spanish children's books. One of the hotels told them the first year that they donate all the "left behind" travel books to a local library. Mom and dad visited it and yup plenty of adult books in english and no kids books. the tourists mainly used it. So they started a personal mission to get more books the kids could read.
last time they went they found out the library had been getting more and more kids books and had split its inventory with another town. other repeat visitors had started bringing kids books as well. Be sure to leave all those books for the local kids you may start something very special!

Oh My! I had not thought about leaving the books!Tansy wrote:ts Be sure to leave all those books for the local kids you may start something very special!
I had thought about leaving clothing and toys, music and church stuff. I need to look through my spanish books. I have a few duplicates that would do some good.
Thanks for the reminder!

Dorla, when do you leave for your missions trip? You'll have to let us know so we can pray for you. How EXCITING! May Jesus FILL YOU UP with all of HIMSELF so that you can pour it out onto those you minister to and love! I hope you take pictures and share with us when you get back!

Tell us more about your trip please. Is it with your church or if not, how did you find it? We are interested....Dorla wrote:We will be on a mission trip to Mexico
Yes, the mission trip it is with my church. They have been going for 20 years, this will be our first!
We are going to finish a few church buildings by painting, building concrete block fences, etc.
Spanish speaking adults will hold nightly evangelistic meetings or VBS type meetings for children. Others go especially to cook for us or prepare materials for the meetings. (We are a group of 35-40)
We are sleeping in a school or gym. I heard that someone is bringing mattreses for us. We must take our sleeping bags.
We chose to go on this trip because 1) it was on $350 per adult and children under 12 go free, 2) It is only a 12-14 hour drive from our home in the DFW, TX area, 3)we speak spanish and would be able to help in many different areas 4) Our 5 year old son needs to see and learn about the rest of the world.
OK! This is all I can share because this is all I know! Once we get back I will really have something to say.
MamaMary thank you for the prayers! we will need them. I won't be taking my laptop so I will be having withdrawal symptoms, but knowing we are covered with prayer gives us strength!
We leave Thursday morning March 6 @ 5 am and return on the 16th.

How very cool! My church goes down to Mexico every year to help build houses. I haven't been able to go but last yr was able to make 3 quilts for the family. The people that did go said the family was more grateful for the quilts than the house. I was just amazed that God used my joy of quilting to bless another family and that He helped me get 3 large size quilts done in time. It is a definite blessing to give to others in need
