Another newbie question....
Okay. After reading further through the catalog today, I am now concerned that this curriculum is one that is best used if started in Kinder. Am I wrong? My son is 8 and in the 2nd grade, but we are both new Christians and he is all over the place in his subjects. Has anyone else just quit what they're currently using, and jumped into HOD?

I would love to hear of others coming in to HOD. Was the difference huge? Did you do all of it starting the first day?
Thanks for any help you can offer!

Hi Christine.
We just started HOD this year for second grade. My dd is 7 and was in public school prior to this. We chose Beyond and it is going VERY well. We are very comfortable with it, even though we did not do the earlier programs. I just made sure to place her in the correct level. We are half a year ahead in Singapore Math so we are working ahead in the manual for math only. We are also using DITHOR because she is a very strong reader/writer.
We did do all of it starting day one, but many people begin half speed and then move to full speed when ready. There was some adjustment at the beginning as public school and HOD are very different, but we work through any issues and now feel at home with HOD.
I think it is a wonderful program no matter what guide you start with. I can't see us leaving! Good luck in your decision

Welcome to HOD!!! I can't answer your question with direct experience, but if you read through some of the posts you will see that many folks have started HOD at varying points. Some folks jump right in mid-year, and you certainly don't have to start ot Little Hearts, you should pick the guide which best meets your child's skill level. You could start at Little Hearts (it has 2nd grade options), but you may find that Beyond is a better fit. Since you have the catalog you can refer to the placement guide to help make the right decision, above all place this before the Lord and He will show the path He wants you to take. HTH, best wishes!

Christine,
That's the beauty of the placement chart. Just look it over and decide where your child is at the present time and begin there. It is not difficult AT ALL to jump in at any point on the journey.

This is our first year with HOD. My sons are in 5th grade and 2nd grade. We are having our best year yet. The placement chart is very important. If you use that, you can identify your options. Then, there is some wiggle room to pick the program that most appeals to you. For example, my youngest son placed in Beyond Little Hearts but I choose Little Hearts for the content. I've been very happy with the choice.
