Scrapbook of the year idea I have...
Scrapbook of the year idea I have...
I've been trying to figure out some way to reinforce the things we've learned from each unit of Beyond that we're working through. Today I think I might have figured out just a way to do that.
I'd like to do a scrapbook (12" X12" pages) of our year in Beyond. Each unit would be a 2-page layout featuring things used from lapbooks, photos of projects we've done, and the Scripture verse placed somewhere there too. I really want to be able to review over each unit and see what we can remember, and also have something to remember our year in Beyond .
This afternoon ideas just started flying through my head about things I'd like to add in to this, and how I'd like to do the same with Bigger next year too. I have some crafts and things I know I want to add in to some of the lessons. I'm thinking a page about Holland for our upcoming unit when the Pilgrims head that way---featuring tulips, storks, windmills, dikes, etc. We'll add in some things as we go along--vocabulary words from our reading, grammar definitions, blurbs of our read-alouds, and so forth.
This is all in my head tonight, so over the weekend I want to get this going, as we've already finished 3 units so far, and I'll have to backtrack a little to cover the first three in our book. It might be nice to even have a week of review after so many units to make sure we have a good retention of some our lessons. So, if each book has 34 units, I'd need about 36 pages in the book--not 68 like I'm thinking~right?
I'd love to hear any ideas you have about this, and once I get this started, I'll try to post a picture of what we'll be doing.

What an awesome idea. I have no suggestions for you at all, I am just savoring the finished product. And I am sad that I am already on Unit #16 of LHFHG...too far to start now.
This could also be done in a spiral journal type notebook, don't you think? I am just thinking that if I take out my scrapbook stuff I will go crazy!
Can't wait to hear your final idea.

I love this idea....I'll be thinking about it as well. Hopefully you'll have this all down pat by the time I am ready for Beyond?!?
I need to be more creative than just everything in a big folder and say...here's your 1st grade year. This would make a nice review as well as keepsake.
Can't wait to see a pic.

I've spent the last hour scribbling ideas down from the first six units. I see so many things that deserve to go in our book. I may have to pick-and-choose from the things I've listed. I don't think they'll all fit on 2 pages! There's just such a treasure trove of lessons in this book!!
Dorla, I thought about the spiral notebook for us, and it may come to that. I'm working through how I'd like to set up our book, but it could certainly work in a spiral book. Something else I'm considering is an artist's sketch pad made of the heavier paper in a spiral book. That would work great also.
I know what you mean about getting crazy with the scrapbook stuff. I have so much of it that I've collected through the years, and I need to do something really constructive with it!!

I think it is a great idea! Just think when your kids are 25 or so on a holiday you can pull out the scrapbook and reminisce on all the fun HOD times you had. Great idea!

I think that's a great idea too. Post a pick when you finish a page! I am taking pictures as we go in Beyond (we're on Unit 3) to do just that. I don't blog because I find it all frustrating trying to upload and I'm not real gabby.
No ideas yet here for you but I love the verse idea for each unit, I'll probably do a couple pictures as well along w/a page of work. Maybe not exciting, but sometimes as you get going, thoughts come in droves.

I love this idea, Vicki! Please post a page after you've started. I like to scrapbook as well, but I am about a year behind. My poor baby has not been born in "scrapbook world" yet! What a neat idea you have to celebrate your HOD year! Can't wait to hear more about it!

Vicki..., I LOVE the idea! I am going to start putting together a digital book at Shutterfly today. I can just add to it as well go. I am thinking I will use one page to journal (what I write in my blog) and the other page for the pictures. By the end of the year each boy should have 34, 2 page layouts. I agree w/ W2W that your kids (and those of us copying you ) are going to love looking at these when they are 25!
Ann, I would LOVE to see a picture of yours too, once you get started!
You girls have the GREATEST idea's!

Mary, that is such a great idea about the digital book with added entries from your blog! I hadn't thought of adding in my own commentary---I don't know what I was thinking. I think that will be another thing I'd like to add in for sure---how our week went, things that touched our hearts from the lesson, Scripture, etc.
I know I want to add a note to our book from Unit 3 from this past week. When we returned home from the soccer field this morning, wet and covered in grass and mud, my dgs broke into our song of the week, "G-O-D is L-O-V-E". I don't know what brought that to his mind, but it really gives me a warm, happy feeling to know that he truly is hiding His words in his heart! Now, I've just got to scrapbook that!

I think this is a great idea, too!
My kids LOVE to look at what I've scrapbooked (1 year for the oldest 2, and about 6 mo of our family in 2005). My youngest is in the works now and is about 3 months old in "scrapbook world".
I probably wouldn't have thought of it...thanks for sharing. I'm pretty sure I'll copy, too.
