Boy, it's been awhile since I've had a chance to do this.

DD had a bunch of fun with Beyond this week. we're in week 17 and she is really enjoying the story about the boys being captured by Indians. She begs for more each day. We're also reading The Railway Children for our mystery. While it's a little tough to understand in spots, she's doing great with it and is very interested to know what is going to happen to the kids. I'm quite proud of how well she's handling the book since it's by far the toughest thing we've read together.

DS has been enjoying week 3 in LHTH. We reenacted Abraham and Lot choosing their land many times today. And he's quite proud of himself being able to spell his own name. Truth be told, mom and dad are pretty proud too.

Finally dug my camera out. Last week Little J (just turned 3) got to paint a "B." I have to admit I was not looking forward to it and almost opted for the playdough option, but I knew he would love painting so we did it. He did quite well with no major accidents. Of course big brother had to join the fun and he painted his own "B." I am amazed at the learning that comes from the action rhymes. Big J learns his in about two days and if I say even one word wrong ("In", not "on" mommy") he lets me know about it. He could rattle off the continents after week 1 of LHFHG. We are having a blast and our plan to go 1/2 speed has been shelved. We are going full speed and it is going very well.
p.s. Dh made the art table.

CountryMom, I LOVE the art table. Your DH is gifted. I wish sometimes my children had been able to do the younger HOD guides. I know my son would have enjoyed all the songs and hands-on activities.

crlacey, I love the reenactment of Abraham & Lot! Great use of bedding. LOL. I've yet to read Railway Children. My daughter has it in her room in her "to-read" pile. She loved Five Children and It by the same author so I hope it goes over well with her.

Creation to Christ:
Hi Ladies! Wyatt and I are LOVING reading God King. We can hardly wait to read the next chapter. His history projects are a ton of fun, and here are a few of the last ones:

Wyatt and I playing the Twenty Squares game... He won, but we're having a rematch soon! :D

Wyatt's Philistine helmet got a lot of use around here...

Here he is with his most recent watercolor painting for his Robert Frost poetry:

I had Wyatt say ALL of his Philippians verses for me - all I can say is WOW! He is able to memorize much more quickly than me. In Geography, we are really enjoying the press "record" and talk about what we've learned (really an oral narration). I bought a microphone for Wyatt for Christmas so he can do it up even bigger - we like to pretend we're having a newscast in our home. Wyatt always has something to share with me about his science - he is very engrossed in the reading of it. Another great week here with CTC!

In Christ,
Julie

Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory:
Riley and I are laughing our way through Mr. Popper's Penguins, and also laughing our way through McBroom's Wonderful 1 Acre Farm for DITHOR. We just started DITHOR, and he is doing beautifully! He even wants to do the writing part of it, though I am approaching this more low key because he's young. I let him do the last DITHOR project with Wyatt, even though Riley hadn't done the previous part of the unit - they wanted to do it together, and they picked the group project and did well with it. I started off with them together doing DITHOR, but it was adding time to the day, so I went back to my old schedule and separated them for DITHOR for right now. Riley needs a lot of help right now, and Wyatt doesn't - so it's been better this way. Plus, since Riley is younger, I want him reading every day but not necessarily doing the Student Book daily. It's working well. For next year, I'll plan for them to be together, when Emmett is older and can do more on his own, and when Riley is truly old enough to fully do DITHOR.
Riley continues to LOVE the activities and hands-on parts of Beyond. Here he is as Daniel Boone forging through the trees to make the Wilderness Trail (he had some help):
Image
His other favorite project was making the Lord's Army Armor for his stuffed animal:
Image
Before that, he loved making the tissue flower that the little girl wanted to wear to welcome George Washington as President:

It's hard to believe we are in Unit 28 of Beyond now - time does fly when we're having fun!
In Christ,
Julie

Little Hands to Heaven:
We are slowly going through LHTH half-speed, and Emmett loves it! He is very animated while doing the Fingerplay, though he misses quite a few of the words. He knows all of his sounds so far for his letters and loves doing them with their actions (even at restaurants or during church  ). His favorite activity was feeding Abraham's 3 guests:
Image
He also can't wait to cut and glue, and while I help a lot, I am so proud of how much he tries to do and is happy to do:

When Emmett finishes a paper, he rushes to the fridge to hang it up so Daddy can see it when he gets home. His Bible story time is also a favorite for him, and for me. I'm so glad we started this, even though we are doing it very slowly. He feels so important and loves his time with me for school. :D

CountryMom, I LOVE the art table. Your DH is gifted.
I agree, dh is very gifted. A lot of our furniture was made by him. I always love looking at your blog and I have shown it to dh so he can get a feel for the program. I love the weekly check-in, lets me know what we have in store.

It was good to get back to Preparing after taking a week off. This week we studied India and China. His history project was drawing the silk road and making cards with the process of silk making on them. I got a book out of the library on silkworms so that my visual kid could see the pictures of each step. Noah loved the story of Horatius and the bridge. He is liking CHOW more and more, although he still struggles sometimes with orally narrating from it. He tends to have a mental block when it comes to remembering names so if he has a chapter with lots of names like we did this week that throws him for a loop.

The science project this week was making a dinosaur and seeing how body shape effects their balance. We tried making one out of straws and mini-marshmallows but that didn't work so we tried the clay and toothpicks idea. This worked better for us.

He finished Toliver's Secret in DITHOR and really liked it. I love the different activities in DITHOR and how it makes him analyze things in different ways.

For his poetry performance this week he decided he would strum my lap harp and recite "My Kingdom" to one of our dogs.

Ladies,

What a joy it is to get a glimpse inside your school days! I loved the sneak peeks and seeing your kiddos dressed up, cuddled up, and enjoying their activities. :D What a blessing to be the ones who are educting our kiddos! It is a privilege to be together each day.

Thanks so much for sharing! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
