Just thought I'd share a tip. We tried to clean the penny as directed with water & dish soap. When it didn't work for our filthy penny

I googled how to clean a penny and found many science experiments where you mix 1 cup white vinegar + 1 tsp table salt and stir the penny around in it for a bit. It worked really well, and the kids enjoyed cleaning a few more coins, until the solution got too dirty

We're still a ways till until 15 but great tip. I'll keep this in mind when we get to that point, sometime next year.

If you let the pennies sit in ketchup, they clean up really nice. DH loves to do this with the kids!

I heard the ketchup thing too and that is what we did. The kids had done it at church and the ketchup was supposed to represent the blood of Christ taking away our sins. Thought that was kind of neat.

water2wine - Thanks for sharing. I had not heard the experiment explained like that, but I love it!
