Loving CHOW and Preparing activities!

Post by water2wine » Wed Nov 04, 2009 12:48 pm

We are really loving CTC and I knew that was going to be the case but I am surprised at how much we are loving Preparing. I knew it was going to be really good but we are having a blast. The projects are great! Never in a million years would I be pulling this off on my own. Oh I would think of something great and I would add to it until I was so wore out I would never get to it and I would be listening to my kids asking when would we finally do it. The projects are so easy yet meaningful and best of all they get done. We are really loving CHOW and the biblical connection to pull it together. It just reads so well. My speech is a little off lately and so it is nice to have something that reads so easily.

We've had some big bumps in the road with life this year but school is still going great. I was worried doing three programs but it's life tested and still working. Anyway just having a fun day I guess and nobody else to tell so I thought I would tell you all. It's so nice to have something you love to use for school. I think I would be just overwhelmed this year if I was not so very happy with what we are using that it makes school a pleasure. What a blessing it has been. :D

:D Yea! (I just had to pop in here and rejoice with you.) :D

You have had quite the year! And I'm so glad to hear that God is blessing your school time in the midst of it all. He truly knows exactly what we need, doesn't He? And, I'm totally with you on loving Preparing. It is a blessing to me every day. I love our history readings, too. And, Grant loves the activities. AND...we're done by lunch time! Grandpa's Box has us captivated.

Anyway, glad to hear that it's going great!

water2wine,

I'm so glad that you're getting a chance to have your middle kiddos go through Preparing Hearts. I loved it last year right along with my middle guy too! :D We had a great time with the projects, and I will fully admit that my poor oldest son said many times, "Hey, I never got to do that"! Being my test child, he misses out on much of the more pulled together version of the HOD guides that my next kiddos get! :D :D

I'm so sorry that your speech is troublesome. I will say a prayer for you and for the health of your family.

Blessings,
Carrie

Kathleen,

I'm so glad that you're getting a chance to enjoy Preparing Hearts right along with Grant! We loved Grandpa's Box last year too. :D It is such a well-written, book. We found it to be the perfect complement to A Child's History of the World. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

That's awesome, Brenda! :D I am so glad to hear it's going well, and you are enjoying both programs. The activities are really amazing, aren't they? I think it's tough to find activities that are easy enough that they get done, but hard enough in content and maturity level for our older learners. Carrie and I talked a long time about how so many curriculums either drop hands-on activities completely as dc get older, or the activities are so involved that they often either don't get done or the parent ends up taking it over and having to do so much with it that the child isn't really responsible for the final product. We wanted the guides to have a hands-on component that was meaningful for older students, was linked to what was being learned rather than being a separate entity, and yet could be done by the student fairly independently. I always throw out these pie in the sky ideas (the idealist in me I guess  ), and somehow Carrie makes it all come together so beautifully - she has an incredible talent for writing. I'm so happy you and your dc are enjoying the activities, we do too! :D

In Christ,
