My little guy, age 4, sounded out his first word tonight! We are going through LHTH at a slow pace, but have been really talking a lot about letter sounds these past few months. Tonight he was looking at a book cover that had the word BAT. Slowly he followed the word with his finger sounding out each letter. "BBB....AAA.... TTT" "Mommy does that say bat?" Hurray!!! He ran around saying "I can read! I can read!"
Just wanted to share the joy in our house tonight. There's nothing like helping your child unlock the world of reading!!

That's great - I'm so proud of him! There is nothing like that feeling of teaching our dc to read. It can be difficult at times, and it can be easy at times - but in the end, it's pretty amazing to know we taught our own dc to read. Your little guy is already on the way to that happy outcome!
